Summer Linen Jacket Care Guide

Expecting us to send you off to the dry cleaners? Think again. Looking after your favourite jacket is refreshingly straightforward. Three simple steps to keep it in top form.

Step 1: Washing

Chuck it in the machine on a 30°C cycle. Nothing new under the sun.

The key thing? Keep the spin speed under 800 rpm. Go above that and you risk damaging the fibres.

While we're at it, separate your colours to avoid any nasty surprises, and keep different fabrics apart where possible. Linen really doesn't get on with synthetics — if you wash them together regularly, it'll start to show.

If you can, grab a mesh laundry bag. It'll cut down on friction between your jacket, the drum, and everything else in there.

Step 2: Drying

Linen's absorbent, but it dries quickly. That said, we'd recommend giving the tumble dryer a miss — it'll only damage the fibres and leave your jacket impossible to iron.

Instead, place your Summer Jacket to a wooden hanger, out of direct sunlight, and let it air-dry. Give it an hour or two and you're good to go.

Step 3: Ironing

Now, there are two schools here:

  • Those who like their linen crisp and smooth — adding texture and edge to an outfit.
  • Those who prefer it creased, rumpled, and full of character.

We're not picking sides. But if you do fancy ironing your Summer Linen Jacket, keep the iron at 150°C max and place a damp cloth between the sole plate and the fabric. That'll stop it from going shiny.

Once that's done, store it on a hanger when you're not wearing it, and pop it in a garment bag during the off-season.

OUR SUMMER LINEN JACKETS AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Summer Linen Jackets:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing yours for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing it on to a friend, family member or donating it to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • No microplastics are released during washing. Unlike many garments, our Summer Linen Jackets have been designed to not release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Summer Linen Jacket.
