Yes, they're lovely. Yes, you'll want to show them off. But no, you can't walk around in them without shoes! Can we count on you?

We all know socks get put through their paces. We wear them every day, wash them constantly, and that's before you factor in the rubbing inside your shoes. To give them a longer life, we went for a reinforced blend of Fil d’Écosse cotton, polyamide, elastane and lycra. Still, we've got a small tip for washing them.

Here's what you can do: get yourself a wash bag, pop your socks inside before they go in the machine. It cuts down on friction, makes them last even longer, and saves you from those mysterious disappearances.

Otherwise, you know the drill: 30°C with similar colours and a sensible spin cycle. For the spin, keep it to 800 rpm max.

Skip the tumble dryer and reach for a clothes airer and a couple of pegs. Leave it all out to air, ideally out of direct sunlight, then come back a few hours later to find your mates bone dry.

Don't ask us why, but some human beings iron their socks. We know this for a fact, because certain members of the team belong to that mildly unsettling cult. If you're one of them, just know you should steer clear of ironing them, or they'll wear out faster.

As for storage, we'll leave you to it, since everyone has their little rituals. That said, you'd do well to pop a lavender sachet in your drawer to stop moths munching through them like a falafel wrap with white sauce.

Since 1 January 2024, the AGEC law requires all textile brands to be transparent about what goes into their products so we can all have a much better idea of exactly what we're buying. We didn't wait for the legislation to do this, we actually lobbied for it, and we think it's an important step in the right direction to change the way our industry works. So here are a few extra details about your Fil d’Écosse Socks:

• They're not recyclable. If your story together comes to an end, just know your socks can't be recycled. So we'd suggest thinking about donating them before you part ways.
• They don't contain plastic microfibres. Unlike a lot of clothing that sheds microplastics in the wash, they've been designed to minimise their environmental impact. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles that wreak havoc on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
• They don't contain hazardous substances. They respect strict European standards aimed at eliminating substances and chemical treatments that could be harmful to you, the environment, and the people who make them.
• They don't contain recycled materials. Sometimes we manage to use recycled materials to further reduce the impact of our clothes. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible in this case.

There you go. Look after them and don't play puppets with them too often, and they'll be escorting your best outfits for a good while yet.
