Be the King of Comfort

The subtle art of making comfortable look good

If it’s comfort and durability you want, you’re in the right place. We also took care of all the issues you mentioned:

1

They stretch out of shape

2

Their cut makes them unacceptable for a quick pop to the shops

3

The fabric leaves a lot to be desired

4

Pitiful pocket space

Jog on, will ya?

Clean and green

You know us, if we can cut chemicals out of our supply chain, we will. Organic is always the best way to go, and that’s precisely what we’re offering: pure organic cotton. No artificial flavours here.

Genius jersey

This cotton was spun, dyed and finished by Eigui in Portugal, who are very much geniuses when it comes to jamming out quality jersey, and who we trust with pretty much all of our sporty casual wear. Suffice to say, they know their way around a jersey loom.

Middleweight champion of the world

Chances are you’ll be wearing these to watch telly rather than for running up thesteps of your local museum of art, and that’s why they’re a perfect middleweight. 380 g/m2, to be precise, which is not too heavy, and not too light either.

A passion for pockets

You could say that we have a passion for pockets, here at Asphalte. We all know how annoying it is not to have adequate pocket space, and so we try and mitigate that issue with everything we design. In keeping with this pro-pocket ethos, these have deep side pockets, and a single back pocket, too.

Calculated cut

Joggers aren’t without their detractors, and this vocal contingent often like to point out the garment’s shapelessness. Well, that might be true of some pairs, but not ours. They have a neat, modern cut that’s comfortable, but won’t look too shabby should you have to pop out to run some errands.

It’s a drawstring thing

Everyone knows the pain of a drawstring waist eventually becoming unusable, its eyelets too frayed for purpose. In a bid to prevent this, we’ve reinforced the eyelets, and even added brass tips to the strings themselves.

Reinforced ribbing

On the subject of durability, we’ve reinforced the ribbing around the waist and hems, too. It’s a simple precaution, but one that will ensure your joggers don’t conk out on you unexpectedly.

Fourth time’s a charm

We don’t just manufacture the first design we come up with, you know. We like to take our time, and on this occasion, we went through a total of four prototypes before we were satisfied.

Comfort is king

Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about comfort. That’s really the most important element when it comes to joggers. So in the interest of comfort, the jersey’s reverse is brushed to make it feel extra soft against the skin, and we’ve also added elastane to the waist and hems for some durable stretch.

The Team

Asphalte began life back in 2016, just four people with a bit of experience in fashion and a simple enough aim: making good quality clothes in a low-impact way. Things started off smoothly enough, and we were picking up a bit of momentum, but something was missing. The idea for Asphalte didn’t really come together until we got our pals on the blower and asked them, ‘Hey, what do you want us to make?’ We didn’t realise it at the time, but this was the turning point. If Asphalte were a scientific discovery, this would be called the ‘eureka!’ moment. If it were a comic book, this was the part where we get bitten by a radioactive spider.

It might not seem like a revolutionary idea. That’s because it isn’t, really. But fast forward 5 years and asking our friends what they wanted has turned into sending you lot our biannual questionnaires, and using your feedback to determine what we release. And that’s our secret weapon. It’s how we make what you want for a good price, and keep waste to a minimum.

Today our team is a bit bigger than four people. In fact, there are 64 of us now. We used to be based in Paris, but now we’ve moved out to greener pastures down in Bordeaux. Besides that, we’re still working in much the same way as when we first started, with the same ideas about quality, sustainability and our customers leading the way.
