What actually makes a proper polo shirt?
More Polo than polo
10933. René Lacoste got fed up playing tennis in a long-sleeved shirt. So he created a cotton knit with a collar you could flip up to shield your neck from the sun. Simple, practical, revolutionary in its ordinariness. Since then, the polo shirt has barely changed, because there’s never been good reason to change it. A collar that holds, a piqué knit that breathes, short sleeves, and a few buttons.
That's it. At Asphalte, we don't try to reinvent what's worked perfectly for the best part of a century. We respect the item’s history by making it the right way: top-quality materials, proper know-how, no shortcuts. This polo shirt looks like every good polo shirt that came before it. And that's precisely why it'll last.

Did you actually stick to tradition?
The Popeye of Polo Shirts
A polo shirt that lasts is first and foremost a question of density and cotton quality. Here, we're talking a 250gsm piqué — thick enough to stand the test of time without being uncomfortable to wear.
- The cotton is combed, meaning the short fibres are removed, leaving only the long ones. It’s softer, stronger, more stable and far less prone to bobbling.
- The collar is a structured ribbed knit, with no hidden plastic stiffeners inside. The knit itself does the hard work. No corners cut.
- The buttons are corozo, a plant-based material that handles washing machines and the passing time with ease — we already use it on most of our clothes.
- And naturally, the whole thing is made in Portugal by EIGUI, a workshop that's been making polo shirts for long enough to know how to do so properly.

How is the cut?
Fitted, as every good polo shirt should be
The cut is fitted without being tight — it follows the body and finishes right where it should. The sleeves sit just above the elbow and are twin-needle hemmed.
If you're between sizes, go for the larger one for a bit more comfort.

How does preordering work?
Basically, it means you buy the garment before it’s produced. By pre‑ordering, you’re the one launching the production.
With this system, we only produce what’s sold, so we avoid overproduction and can offer you an excellent quality‑price ratio.
