Comfort in spades

Tan lines, fine. Belt marks across your waist? Not so much. We spent a lot of time making sure the elasticated waistband was just right. The result is a properly considered detail that you can adjust thanks to a trusty drawcord. Comfortable, carefully designed and it looks good too.

Special mention for the brushed interior that is very soft against the skin. It’s a luxury you don't strictly need in the height of summer, but one we deemed absolutely essential for anyone sporting the Asphalte logo on the beach.

While we're at it, a word on the pockets: two side pockets big enough to swallow your phone, all of it, plus a more secure zip pocket at the back for your keys.

Cotton that’s genuinely breathable

Building a pair of shorts that can’t breathe would be like sending you a pair of sunglasses without the lenses. Pointless. We're agreed on that.

Which is why we went for an 100% organic cotton battavia twill, woven by Candiani in Italy. This particular type of twill combines some very sought-after qualities: it’s tough without being stifling and breathable without being delicate. Exactly what you need in a pair of shorts that you can wear from May to September without thinking twice. Its weight gives it enough body to hold its shape after dozens of washes, while staying light and comfortable under 30°C in the shade. Each fabric is piece-dyed (except Stone, which is yarn-dyed) to stop those rich colours from fading even after prolonged sun exposure.

Something new under the sun

Too short and you need to watch out every time you sit down. Too long and you're in bermuda territory. So, we've gone for a three-quarter thigh length that looks clean without leaving you vitamin D deficient.

A little bonus from us: we've slightly extended the back rise for extra ease of movement. You won’t notice it just looking at them, but you’ll soon feel the difference. Fair warning: these shorts are dangerously addictive from May to September. Getting back into jeans come autumn may be a little trickier than usual.
