Ready for real life

Back in the day, this sort of jacket was standard-issue for members of the Navy. These days, you’re more likely to be wearing it down your local high street. So we’ve proportioned it for real life:

  • Straight fit. Perfect for slipping over a heavy rib—without looking like a naval mine.
  • A sensible length. Sits mid-seat—sit down or hop on your bike unimpeded.
  • Fully lined. Body and sleeves. Toasty.
  • 3 pockets. Two up front for your hands, one inside with a snap button fastening. Bags of storage space.

If you know Asphalte, you already know the answer.

We’ve decked this N1 Deck Jacket out to the nines. Take a look:

  • 100% organic cotton Ottoman. The outer fabric comes from France, courtesy of Telatex, woven from fully certified organic cotton. Extra-thick, packed with texture—the feel hits somewhere between classic canvas and corduroy, thanks to those bold, ridged lines. It’s what’s known as Ottoman, and it’s about as durable as it comes.
  • A water-repellent finish. We’ve added a water-repellent treatment to the fabric to help it fend off the occasional shower. It’s not 100% waterproof, but you’ll stay nice and dry if you get caught out occasionally.
  • Collar in pure French merino wool. For the fleecy texture, we’ve used the same wool as in our WoolPure Fleece. Purebred stuff from French Merino sheep – famed for being soft, warm and surviving all sorts of chilly mornings. You’ll look the part and keep the sniffles at bay.
  • Cotton lining throughout. On the inside, you've got a proper quilted lining made from organic cotton—sporting a fetching 'onion' print borrowed straight from classic military kit. There's extra wadding made from recycled polyester stitched in, too, which traps air and boosts the thermal credentials.
  • Viscose-lined sleeves. The sleeves are lined and quilted too in a smooth viscose fabric, so your arms slide in unimpeded.

Yes and no. But mostly no.

The N1 Deck Jacket is Asphalte’s take on the US Navy’s N1 Deck Jacket. So, we kept some of the all-important touches. Think of it as picking out all the best bits that give it its special character and make it so practical for 2025. What does that look like? Here’s what we’ve cooked up:

  • Side adjusters with metal buckles. Perfect for stopping intrusive breezes on the scooter.
  • Elastic ribbed edges at the cuffs. Hidden away under the sleeves - you’d never spot them - they keep the drafts out and you nice and toasty.
  • A throat tab under the collar. Essential for keeping the collar up and fending off the filth.
  • A double metal ZIP and a button placket. Double locked.
  • A collar with tough-as-you-like zigzag stitching. So it stands firm and proud when you decide to pop it.

Basically, it means you buy the garment before it’s produced. By pre‑ordering, you’re the one launching the production.
