Creating a cashmere that’s soft is easy. We all know it comes from the undercoat of cashmere goats, a fibre naturally softer than a bedtime story. The real challenge? Making cashmere that’s soft and tough. That’s where the Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper steps up—and it’s not just talk:
- A 3-ply knit. While most jumpers are knitted with two yarns twisted together, our Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper uses three. And the third ain’t a spare part either. Twisted tightly together, it makes for serious staying power.
- A smart blend: 65% recycled cashmere, 35% virgin. Two-thirds of the cashmere in your Half-Zip Jumper starts life as a discarded jumper. Once rescued, it’s re-spun by Filati Naturali in Italy, who are Global Recycled Standard certified — which is eco-speak for both planet and people getting a look-in. It’s a clever way to breathe new life into cashmere without falling into the usual industry pitfalls. As recycled cashmere tends to be a bit more delicate - thanks to having shorter fibres - we’ve packed in a dollop of virgin cashmere, picking out the longest, toughest fibres out there. End result? A heavy, dense knit that stays put — and resists bobbling — for the long haul.
- Utter finesse. Pluck a hair off your head. Not exactly thick, is it? Split it down the middle and you've got the width of a strand of regular sheep’s wool. Split it again for merino. If you keep going, you get to cashmere: just 16.5-microns. We’re not here to split hairs, but to give you a sense of just how soft the Half-zip Jumper is. Slip it on, and you’ll never want to take it off.
- Rock-solid finishing touches. Top-notch fibres, quality yarn, and a clean jersey knit are all well and good, but what actually makes the Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper tough as nails is the way it’s put together and all the details that go into it. For that, we turn to Yana’s team in Bulgaria, absolute sticklers when it comes to quality control. They’re the same folk who made our New Cashmere in 2024, which our customers rated a sturdy 8.3 out of 10 for durability.
Isn’t cashmere a nightmare to look after?
Absolutely not.
The received knowledge is wrong — cashmere isn’t a high-maintenance material. Sure, it requires a bit more consideration than your gym kit, but there’s nothing daunting about it:
- For one, it loves water. Unlike sheep’s wool, cashmere isn’t afraid of a soak. The more you wash your Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper, the softer it’ll get—one of the really nice things about this fibre. No need to chuck it in the bath every morning, but worth remembering all the same.
- Washing’s surprisingly straightforward. Either a gentle hand-wash in cold, soapy water or a 20°C wool cycle and you’re sorted. What really matters is limiting the spin cycle to 400 rpm tops. If you’re washing by hand, don’t wring it out like you’re washing a car —fold it neatly and press down gently to push out excess water.
- Dry flat. Naturally, tumble drying is out of the question. The best option is to lay your Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper out on a towel and let it relax. Seriously—don’t hang it up to dry. The weight of the wet knit will stretch it out of shape.
What else’s worth knowing about the Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper?
A fresh face, but with plenty of backstory.
It’s the first time we’re presenting it to you, but it owes a lot to an established Asphalte classic: the New Cashmere. In fact, we had so many requests to turn our crew-neck cashmere into a half-zip version that, well, we did exactly that.
- Nothing’s changed but the collar. Same 16.5 micron fibres, same 3-ply cashmere, same trusted makers. The jumper that scored 8.5/10 from 5,000 customers is back in a fresh guise: this time with a half-zip collar that’s as soft as a lamb. Even the fit stays the same—lightly tailored, spot-on length, and neat proportions.
- A half-zip collar that means business. High enough to fend off any winter nippiness—and possibly a bout of tonsillitis —without choking you in the process. Knitted in a dense, classic 1x1 rib for structure with a white metal YKK zip, so you can glide it open as much (or as little) as you like.
- Details matter, right down to the edges. Our ribbed edges benefit from the same attention to detail. Knitted tight in a 1x1 rib, they'll keep their shape - no stretching out, no letting you down.
How does preordering work?
Basically, it means you buy the garment before it’s produced. By pre‑ordering, you’re the one launching the production.
With this system, we only produce what’s sold, so we avoid overproduction and can offer you an excellent quality‑price ratio.
