The Grandad Collar's fabric ticks all the boxes:

• Hard to get more local than this. The raw material, flax, is grown in France - Normandy to be precise. Northern France is not just on our doorstep, but it also happens to be one of the world's finest flax-growing regions.
• It's 100% linen, which is ideal if you like your fabrics hardwearing, absorbent, breathable, temperature-regulating and hypoallergenic, and to get better with every wear. Which we do.
• It weighs in at 165 g/m². Dense enough for a good presence and drape, light enough for the fabric to breathe.
• And the cherry on top: it's clean. The linen we use is European Flax certified. That guarantees environmentally responsible farming and a fully traceable supply chain.

We made the Grandad Collar using the pattern from another long-sleeve item of ours: the Popover Shirt. If you're wondering why, here's your answer: our clients gave this fit a comfort score of 8.9/10.

Put simply, it's the highest score any Asphalte shirt has received since 2016. Not too long, not too short. Not too loose, not too fitted. Tucks in or wears out with zero gripes. This is the fit. Try it and see.

As ever, we've gone the extra mile on both make and finishing:

• A top-notch collar. We'll say it plainly: we nailed this one. The relaxed elegance of the band collar paired with the character of the grandad neckline packs a whole load of charm. Perfectly balanced.
• A sportswear-inspired American placket. Unlike a French placket, the American button placket is topstitched on both sides. It's more relaxed and lends a bit more structure.
• A chest pocket. You'll recognise the button-down inspiration here. It looks good and offers a bit of storage within easy reach.
• Considered cuffs. Pared back, they're 3.5 cm wide and feature a reinforced forearm vent. Comfort pleats round things off nicely. Wear them buttoned, open, or rolled up.
