What's the story with this Asphalte x Menswearplease collab?
Our first menswear collaboration
We met Jordan Maurin of Menswearplease about a year ago, and before long we were working on a collaboration. It's our first ever, after 10 years, so not something we did lightly.
The challenge: for Jordan to take one of our items and make it his own. Being a tailoring obsessive, it's hardly surprising that he bee-lined for our Slack Suit. A full year later, the 7/7 Suit is born - an everyday two-piece that you can practically live in.
Made from a rich, textured fabric, the 7/7 Suit not only looks good but it’s really comfortable to wear. Meet the trousers:

Tell me more about the cut?
Here's the full story
Jordan went for a fairly classic silhouette to balance the fabric:
- A straight fit. It's comfortable, versatile and matches the cut of the jacket. It’s subtly tapered from the knee down for a tidy silhouette, with a 20.8 cm leg opening on a size 30.
- Two outward-facing front pleats. As well as shaping the top of the trousers, they make you look taller and provide welcome extra fabric when you sit down.
- A mid-high rise. Despite the 1920s inspiration, we held off pulling the trousers up under your nose. We went for a mid-rise, sitting a few centimetres below the navel.
- An elasticated waistband at the back. To keep your 7/7 Trousers sitting just where you want them, without squeezing or pinching, we added an elasticated tab at the back.

Let me guess, the fabric's not your average stuff?
You guessed right
We went for a textured fabric made from 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled wool.
- A sensational finish. If you think it looks good, wait until you’ve felt it. It’s got the body of cotton and the silkiness of the wool, which combine to produce a rich hand-feel and a unique grain.
- XXL performance. Pairing these two fibres isn't just about looks, they combine so many natural properties you’re not going to want to take them off. Organic cotton plus wool equals soft, sturdy, breathable and thermoregulating.
- Lower environmental impact thanks to Manteco. The 50% Mwool® is made by Manteco, Italy. It’s fully regenerated from old clothes and textile waste. Look good and feel good.

What's the advantage of Mwool® over a generic wool?
A near-zero environmental footprint
Regenerated Mwool® is miles better for the environment than virgin wool. According to Independent Life Cycle Assessments, Mwool® delivers:
- a 99.2% reduction in CO₂ emissions
- a 99.9% reduction in water consumption
- a 93.3% reduction in energy consumption
These are astronomical figures. But bear with us, they will make sense.

Your wish is our command
Now for the mad bit: not a drop of dye goes into colouring the wool. Not a single drop. Thanks to some crazy magic by Manteco, the colours are mechanically blended from recycled fibres. As these have already been dyed in a previous life, Manteco sort the coloured fibres to create new ones. Sounds simple. It’s not, which is presumably why they’ve patented the technology. It’s called Recype®. As you can probably tell, we’re pretty excited about it - the outcome is excellent.
