What's the story with this Asphalte x Menswearplease collab?
Our first menswear collaboration
For our first ever collab, we decided to work with Jordan Maurin of Menswearplease.
The challenge: to take one of our designs and make it their own. Being a tailoring obsessive, it’s hardly surprising that Jordan bee-lined for our Slack Suit and created the 7/7 Suit. A two-piece intended for everyday wear, from Monday morning through Sunday afternoon.
This jacket is inspired by 1920s style and 1930s French workwear, and it's dead simple to wear.

Tell me more about the cut and construction?
You only had to ask
- A straight fit. If you’re familiar with Jordan’s style, there’s no way it was going to be slim. A tight jacket that pulls was out of the question. Instead, it features a straight fit, lightly shaped through the body.
- A one-off notch lapel. It's the detail that catches your eye first: the rounded notch lapel. A 1920s styling trick that creates a softer line.
- Built around movement. A 7/7 jacket should never restrict movement and everything about the construction supports this: no canvas through the chest, no lining, an American facing and Neapolitan shoulders.
- Comfort, and then some. On top of the cut, the double vent at the back adds even more comfort.

Let me guess, the fabric's not your average stuff?
You guessed right
We went for a textured fabric in 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled wool.
- A sensational finish. It looks great and feels great. The body of the cotton and the silkiness of the wool combine to catch the light beautifully, produce a rich hand-feel and give the surface a unique grain.
- XXL performance. Pairing two natural fibres isn't just about looks, it's practical too - combining the many properties of organic cotton and wool. It’s soft, sturdy, breathable and thermoregulating.
- Lower environmental impact thanks to Manteco. The 50% Mwool® is made by Manteco, Italy. Fully regenerated, it's made from recycling old clothes and textile waste.

What makes it so unique?
One of a kind, by design
Jordan’s idea was to create a suit jacket made for everyday life. All the efficiency of a uniform, without any of the stiffness. Proof? Four details that do the talking:
- The fastening. Three buttons instead of two is already enough to shift the whole balance of the jacket and take it off the beaten track.
- The patch pockets. Rounded pockets with a rounded flap too. More hunting jacket, less estate agent. A bold choice, and it works.
- The softly curved lapel. It almost looks like a shawl collar, gently split by a notch. You do not see that every day. In fact, it is possible nobody has seen it in a century.
- The ticket pocket. Back in the day, those twin welt edges were made to hold a pocket watch. Here, it is sized for a smartphone. Make of that what you will.

Your wish is our command
The richness of the colours on our 7/7 jackets comes from a bit of magic by Manteco. The Mwool® uses patented Recype® technology, which gets you a given colour without a single milligram of dye. How? By mechanically blending recycled fibres that are already coloured. They create colour charts by sorting coloured fibres, which is unheard of. Hats off to them.
