Flax, A European Legacy
Historically, flax isn't native to Europe. Introduced by the Phoenicians in the 12th century, it was grown in Greece, Rome, England, Ireland, Spain, and even Brittany. By the 19th century, linen was in decline but started to make a comeback thanks to it being robust, lightweight, absorbent and ageing gracefully. The ideal material for hot climates.
Turning the Page
We used to produce all of our linen with the French mill Emanuel Lang until a few months ago when they went out of business. It was a tragedy, and we’re still very sad to see them close their doors for good. So we went hunting for a new linen supplier that could offer the same high level of quality you expect from us.
A Trustworthy Pact
Turning a new page in our linen journey, we've now collaborating with the Portuguese mill TMG. We’ve worked with them for a while now on other materials for our Button-Down Oxford Shirt and technical items like the Winter Parka. They immediately stepped in when we explained the situation and have taken over the fabric for our Band Collar Shirts. We’ve seen the samples and they’re great.

It’s all there: from the American placket to the bio-sourced imitation mother-of-pearl buttons. The rounded cuffs to the double pleats for ease of movement and reinforced breast pocket. Ribul, our Portuguese partner, cuts and makes each shirt with expertise, just like they do with our Button-Down Oxford and Summer Shirt.
