Three steps to take care of your Summer Shirt.
Step 1 : Far from a washout
Linen is a very durable material and deals with high temperatures better than most fabrics. That said, it’s not a big fan of being roughed up in the wash, so to be safe we recommend not going above 30°C and keeping the rpms at 600 or below to keep those lovely fibres safe.
We also recommend washing your shirt with similar colours and — if possible — similar fabrics too. Linen doesn’t gel so well with synthetic fibres, so avoid bundling your linens in with your lycra.
You may want to invest in a laundry bag which’ll help keep your most loved items safe those stray pennies and receipts as well as any heavyweight clobber in the mix.

Step 2 : Hang me out to dry
Linen is a thermoregulating and breathable fabric, which means it’ll dry in no time at all. So you can save your shirt the unnecessary spin in the dryer, which could damage its fibres.
All you need to do is let your shirt air dry in the shade on a hanger, ideally a nice wooden one, so it keeps its original shape.

Step 3: Pressing the issue
There are two Summer Shirt-schools, as far as we’re concerned:
- Those who go for a freshly pressed linen, for that casual but brushed-up look.
- Those who let the fabric’s spirit run free, who welcome the materials raw feel.
Don’t ask us to pick favourites here, our Summer Shirt works for either. If you’re into ironing your shirt, you’ll need to do it with a hot iron. A few gentle presses on the reverse should do the trick, ideally using a damp cloth to avoid scorching it. You’ll probably need to spray some water on it before getting started.

Extra tip: Stain-busters
Depending on the culprit, there are several cures for stained linen.
- If it’s drinks going overboard, we suggest applying a little salt.
- A bloodstain? A generous amount of cold water and a bit of patience will do the trick.
- For the ever-punctual Monday morning coffee mishap, white vinegar will save the day.
- If you used your Shirt (and not the standard issue jumper) for a goalpost, you’ll be able to work off the dirt with natural soap and any grass stains with a few drops of lemon juice. For the goals you conceded we can only offer our sympathy.
- Ink stains, for the poets out there? Don’t let that cut your inspiration short, a few drops of rubbing alcohol will take care of that.
- As for grease stains, washing liquid generally does the job, or the gourmands out there can opt for black soap.
FYI, OUR SUMMER SHIRT IS SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET
Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Summer Shirts:
- They’re 100% recyclable, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. However, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. By giving rather than selling, you're contributing to a virtuous cycle and helping those who need it most.
- Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Summer Shirts have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
- They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
- They do not contain any recycled materials. We try and incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Summer Shirt.
Thanks
If you take care of it properly, your Summer Shirt will develop a nice, subtle patina over time. A little TLC goes a long way in shirt-world.
