The Overcoat Care Guide

WHAT’S UNDER THE WOOL?

In a nutshell, this coat is your ultimate weapon against the cold in style. Crafted from top-notch wool, it’s as much about quality as it is about design. And like any masterpiece, it needs a bit of care to keep it in top shape. Don’t worry, though—we’ve got a few easy tips to help you out.

ALTERATIONS

You’ll be wearing it for a while. Therefore we designed the Overcoat so that you can alter it to your preferred length. This will most likely require a quick trip to a trusted tailor unless you’re a real whizz with a needle and thread...

What have you got to play with?

  • We’ve built in enough fabric for you to lengthen the Overcoat by 2cm (just under 1”), the same goes for the sleeves.
  • Thinking of shortcuts? You can trim 2.5cm (1”) off the length of the body and the sleeves without hitting the buttons.

CARING FOR IT

Given your Overcoat’s going to be looking after you through thick and thin, facing down the storms and sharing the thrills and spills with you, the only way to go with washing is to let the pros get involved. So it’s off to the dry cleaners when it’s time for a freshen-up.

We’d go as far as to suggest an annual visit to the cleaners, ideally once the coldest months have passed, so it’s ready for action next time around.

Friendly tip: Remember to check your clothes when you pick them up from the dry cleaners. That way if you spot any damage you can let them know before you step out of the door. Once you’ve left the building they’re much less likely to take responsibility for any scrapes and tears that cropped up in the wash.

And if you ever feel the need to iron it, stick to steam or use the wool setting (that’s the single dot on your iron). Just remember to place a clean cloth between the iron and your coat to avoid giving the wool a shiny finish. It’s a simple step, but it keeps your coat looking its best.

STORING IT

Remember to take your coat off from time to time. We know it's comfortable and all, but it does need a break to keep it looking at its best.

After a long day, pop your Overcoat back on a properly sized hanger so it keeps its shape.

When you’re ready to put it away for the summer store your Overcoat in a garment bag with a packet of moth repellent. They’re both easy finds and shouldn’t cost more than a fiver.

Don’t forget the moth repellent, wool this good is like a Michelin-starred feast for moths.

FYI, OUR OVERCOAT IS SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Long-Sleeve Merino T-shirt:

  • It’s 100% recyclable after being taken apart, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. However, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing it on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. By giving rather than selling, you're contributing to a virtuous cycle and helping those who need it most.
  • Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Overcoats have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try and incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Overcoat.
