Firstly, well done for opting for the Fisherman’s Jacket. It's an investment you won't regret.

With one foot planted in tradition and the other firmly in the present, it’s got all the killer details while feeling as fresh as the catch of the day. And that’s where the analogy ends, because this bad boy's going to be with you for years and years to come thanks to its thick organic cotton canvas and expert manufacture.

That said, you still need to look after it properly, so let’s get to it.

As you'd probably expect, when the time comes to freshen it up, it’s best to entrust the well-being of your Fisherman’s Jacket to your local dry cleaner.

It’s an outlay, that’s for sure, but a dry clean once or twice a year will do it the world of good.

Just remember to give it a good once-over when you collect it. You don’t want to only realise that something’s awry when you get it home, as most dry cleaners won’t want to know about it.

As for storing it:

• always hang it on a wooden hanger with shoulders wide enough
• put it away in a garment cover if you're not planning on wearing it again for a few weeks
• wear it the right way round, even if the tartan lining is a thing of beauty

The Fisherman’s Jacket has a water-repellent treatment, and we even tracked one down free of nasty perfluorocarbons. So it’ll shrug off the odd shower without too much fuss.

If you're caught in a proper downpour though, we'd suggest staying under cover. Water-repellent finish or not, we’re still talking about a cotton canvas and it won’t think much of a good soaking.

Since 1 January 2024, the AGEC law requires all textile brands to be transparent about what goes into their products so we can all have a much better idea of exactly what we're buying. We didn't wait for the legislation to do this, we actually lobbied for it, and we think it's an important step in the right direction to change the way our industry works. So here are a few extra details about the Fisherman Jacket:

• It's 100% recyclable. If your time together comes to an end, know that it can be fully recycled. That said, we'd suggest passing it on before recycling as the longer it's worn, the lower its impact.
• It doesn't contain plastic microfibres. Unlike a lot of clothing that sheds microplastics in the wash, it's been designed to minimise its environmental impact. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles that wreak havoc on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
• It doesn't contain hazardous substances. It respects strict European standards aimed at eliminating substances and chemical treatments that could be harmful to you, the environment, and the people who make it.
• It doesn't contain recycled materials. Sometimes we manage to use recycled materials to further reduce the impact of our clothes. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible in this case.
