The natural properties of Merino wool might seem like magic, but your new Active LS Base Layer still needs a bit of TLC now and again. Here's how to look after it and keep it going for years and years.

A note on trying it on: if your Active LS Base Layer feels a touch snug when you first pull it on, exchange it for a larger size for free. Merino wool knit tends to shrink a little over time, so it’s worth it.

Merino wool is self-cleaning. This means it naturally limits bacteria build-up as you wear it. Simply airing it between wears is enough to shift odours. Washing it every 3 or 4 wears is plenty.

That said, it depends what you get up to in it. Yoga in the living room and trail running in the Alps aren't exactly the same thing.

Yes, the Active LS Base Layer is machine-washable. But there's a but. Merino wool is still a delicate fibre, so make sure you opt for a wool/delicate setting. This should be cold at 30°C with no spin cycle, inside out in a mesh laundry bag and with similar colours.

As for detergent, go for a liquid, eco-friendly one.

Knitwear gets in a fizz unless it's dried flat. The Active LS Base Layer is no different. Hang it up soaked and it will stretch out of shape and may never recover. So air-dry it flat on a bath towel. In half an hour or so, it'll be ready to head back into battle.

To fully snap it back into shape, give it an iron. A quick blast on the wool setting will restore it to its original condition in no time.

Since 1 January 2024, the AGEC law requires all textile brands to be transparent about what goes into their products so we can all have a much better idea of exactly what we're buying. We didn't wait for the legislation to do this, we actually lobbied for it, and we think it's an important step in the right direction to change the way our industry works. So here are a few extra details about your Active LS Base Layer:

• It's 100% recyclable. If your time together comes to an end, know that it can be fully recycled. That said, we'd suggest thinking about giving it away before recycling, as the longer it's worn, the lower its impact.
• It doesn't contain plastic microfibres. Unlike a lot of clothing that sheds microplastics in the wash, it's been designed to minimise its environmental impact. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles that wreak havoc on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
• It doesn't contain any hazardous substances. It meets strict European standards aimed at eliminating substances and chemical treatments that could be harmful to you, the environment, and the people who make it.
• It doesn't contain recycled materials. Sometimes we manage to use recycled materials to further reduce the impact of our clothes. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible in this case.

And there you have it. It's a pretty easygoing item if you know how to look after it.
