How to Care for Your Knitted T-shirt

Merino wool might have near-magical properties, but your new favourite T-shirt won't look after itself. Here's everything you need to know to keep it in proper nick.

Go easy on the washing

Merino wool is naturally self-cleaning — it doesn't trap bacteria or hold onto odours. Which means you won't need to wash your T-shirt after every wear - once every 5 or 6 wears is plenty, as long as you air it out for a few hours between sessions.

If this is your first merino piece, we get it — sounds odd. But you'll quickly see we’re not having you on.

Bonus: fewer washes means less water, less energy, and a bit more left in your account at the end of the month.

What setting should you use?

When it's time for a proper clean, put your Knitted T-shirt in the wash on a wool cycle at 30°C max. Keep the spin gentle — never above 400rpm.

If you'd rather play it safe, hand-washing in cold water works perfectly. Just don't wring it out — fold it instead and press gently from top to bottom to squeeze out the water.

Air-dry flat

If you've got knitwear already, you know the drill: wool garments need to be laid flat to dry, otherwise they'll stretch out of shape. Same goes for this Knitted T-shirt. A flat surface, a towel underneath to catch drips, and you're sorted.

PS: tempted to chuck it in the tumble dryer? Don't. It'll do far more harm than good.

Iron if you fancy it

Our jersey and the merino wool have a natural elasticity that keeps things relatively crease-free, but nothing's stopping you from giving it a quick press if you want it perfectly smooth. If you do, use the wool setting and just a few quick passes — ideally with a cloth between the iron and the fabric.

FYI, your Knitted T-shirt’s environmental footprint

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about your Knitted T-shirt :

  • Its 100% recyclable after dismantling, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing yours for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member, or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Knitted T-shirts have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Knitted T-shirts. But we haven't given up hope on doing just that for the next version.

Thanks!
