Caring for Your Suede Leather Jacket

If you're reading this, you've taken the plunge, hats off to you.

Investing in quality leather is a once-in-a-lifetime decision, a commitment that’ll reward you for decades. Congratulations, and thank you for trusting us.

Looking After Your Suede Leather

Now, there's something we need to discuss: care.

Like a fine pair of shoes, leather needs looking after if you want it to last — and to pass on. That's what this guide is all about. Let's start with the golden rule.

Keep it away from moisture

Rain, sweat, spills — they're suede's worst enemies. They stain, they stiffen, they mark. In short: keep it dry.

Before you wear it for the first time, give it a coat of suede-specific waterproofing spray — and repeat regularly. By regularly, we mean every month or every 10 wears.

When you're wearing it, the advice is simple: avoid downpours. When you're not, it's even simpler: store it somewhere dry, on a wooden hanger.

If you do get caught in the rain, let it dry naturally, then brush it with a crepe brush to lift the fibres.

What about stains?

If you have a ketchup incident (or similar), don't panic.

The key is to avoid adding grease or moisture. For example, rubbing with water would be a disaster. What we recommend: blot away the worst with kitchen paper, then dust the stain with some Sommières earth (a natural clay stain remover). Leave for about thirty minutes, then brush it off with your crepe brush. That should do the trick.

FYI, YOUR SUEDE LEATHER JACKET AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Suede Leather Jacket:

  • It's not recyclable. Natural solid materials can't be recycled at present. So if you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation.
  • Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Suede Leather Jackets have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Suede Leather Jacket.

Thanks!
