Care Guide for the Ultimate Jeans
We’re pretty serious about making long lasting clothes. A big part of that is taking care of them properly. So we’ve prepared a care guide to keep your Ultimate Jeans looking their best for years to come.

Foreword
Remember: the Raw Jeans feel stiffer than washed jeans - that’s totally normal. The fabric’s untreated so isn’t as soft. Once you get a few days’s wear under your belt it'll start to loosen up and take on your shape. For most people there’s no need to go up a size even if they can feel a bit restrictive when you first pull them on. You just need to break them in.

Care for the Raw denim aficionados
Here’re a few things to look out for:
When it comes to Raw denim, our best advice is to wash it as little as possible. This will help your jeans keep their fit and colour longer. Remember that raw denim is untreated, unlike other denims, so reacts very differently to washing.
To get the most out of your jeans we recommend only wearing them every other day at most and airing them after each wear. Some purists also swear by leaving them in the freezer to freshen them up and kill off any bacteria. Why not.
When the time comes to wash them, turn your Raw jeans inside out and soak them in cold water (no soap). Machine spin at a maximum of 400 rpm and leave them to dry flat on a rack.

Alterations
We’ve designed our Ultimate Jeans to fit as many folks as possible, which means standardising the leg length. So, unless you have very long legs you’ll probably need to shorten them. There are two ways of going about this:
- Turn the hem up and showoff the selvedge coloured stripe
- Head to an alterations specialist to have them trimmed and re-finished in your exact length. This usually costs around £10-15 and is worth the trouble.

Caring for them
There are different schools of thought here. Even within our team, it’s a hot topic.
The Old-School Way
This method dates back to before washing machines. It’s simple: don’t wash your jeans. Just air them out between wears to freshen them up. This approach is loved by denim purists because it helps a unique patina develop over time, unlike machine washing, which makes the colour more uniform.
Denim lovers swear by it, and the way it helps the fabric evolve over time doesn’t prove them wrong.
The Modern Approach
Less nostalgic: throw your jeans in the wash like everything else. Use a 30°C delicate cycle topped off by a moderate spin (400-600 rpm), and air dry them out of direct sunlight. Done and dusted. Make sure you wash them with similar colours as the colours can bleed. If you’ve gone for Raw, you may consider washing them separately first time round.
A Third Option?
Want the best of both worlds? You can still clean them without using the washing machine. Simply soak your jeans in soapy water for 15 minutes, rinse, and let them air dry.

Repair
We’ve built our Ultimate Jeans to last and last. From the fabric to the fit, we’ve got you covered. But if they tear or get caught on something, don’t worry—everything can be repaired.
Don’t give up on them at the first sign of wear. Any alteration specialist can patch them up, making your jeans even more unique.

FYI, OUR ULTIMATE JEANS ARE SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET
Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Ultimate Jeans:
- They’re 100% recyclable after being taken apart, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. However, if you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
- Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Ultimate Jeans have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
- They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
- They do not contain any recycled materials. We try and incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Ultimate Jeans.
