Care Guide for the New Cashmere

Contrary to popular belief, cashmere loves water. In fact, cashmere loves water so much that it gets better and softer with each wash. As long as you do it properly that is.

Here’s how:

Washing your New Cashmere

In our opinion, hand washing is still the best way to care for your knitwear, so every 7 to 8 weeks of regular wear, we recommend that you soak yours in cold water (20°C maximum) with a drop of ‘Wool and Delicate Linens’ detergent.

After soaking it for about ten minutes, rinse with cold, clean water.

Drying your New Cashmere

Whatever you do, don’t machine dry or wring it by hand. Both are guaranteed to cause serious damage to the fibres. Instead, we suggest you fold it and press it lightly to remove as much water as possible and then lay it flat to dry. Avoid direct sunlight as this will fade the colours.

A little extra tip whilst we’re at it: you can lay your jumper out on a towel to speed up the process. It will absorb the water more quickly, leaving you with dry knitwear in a few hours in a warm environment.

Storing your New Cashmere

You've probably heard of this, but just in case: knits aren’t keen on hangers. Hanging your knitwear is the best way to stretch it. So stick to folding it flat.

If you have cedar wood or lavender bags to hand, chuck them in your cupboard. They're both natural moth repellents and will reduce the chance that one of these blighters makes a meal out of your precious knitwear.

A few more tips and tricks

If you look after your New Cashmere, you can be sure it will be with you for many years to come. To hit top-level care, here's what you can do:

  • Invest in an anti-pilling razor. Even though we opted for long fibres and a tight knit your New Cashmere’s going to bobble. Not much, but it will. Cashmere always does. To keep it looking neat, you can buy an electrical clothes razor and gently skim the surface of your knits to clip off any bobbles. We’re not talking about taking your Mach3 to your New Cashmere, the razors are designed specially for knitwear. And you probably shouldn’t use them on your face either. But we’ll leave that to you.
  • Put your jumper in a sleeve. During the warmer months, wash your cashmere and place it in a vacuum bag to protect it from dust and insects. It’s the best way to protect it when you’re not expecting to wear it for a while.

FYI, OUR NEW CASHMERE IS SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our New Cashmere:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled. This means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • No microplastics are released during washing. Unlike many garments, our New Cashmere jumper has been designed to not release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They contain 65% recycled materials. 65% of the cashmere used to produce your New Cashmere is GRS-certified recycled. The rest is virgin cashmere wool.
