Care Guide for the Comfort Derby Shoes

You’ve treated your feet to a pair of Comfort Derby Shoes and you'd like to know how best to care for them. You've come to the right place.

There are three golden rules for making sure your kicks go the extra mile.

Golden rule no. 1: Avoid wearing them for several days in a row.

Like us, leather shoes need a breather every now and then, which is why we suggest you don’t wear them day in, day out.

Golden rule no. 2: Use shoe trees.

Absolutely essential, shoe trees have two main functions.

The first is to help your shoes keep their shape over the years, without weakening or sagging.

The second is to wick away moisture caused by rain and/or perspiration.

In our opinion, the most effective are cedar models, which not only scent the leather but also have fungicidal properties that will keep your Derbies clean and tidy.

Golden rule no. 3: Care for them on the regular.

We know you've got a busy schedule, but we strongly advise you to take 5-10 minutes to give your Derbies a polish once a month. The idea is to do it like this:

  • 1 minute: roughly dust your shoes using a scraper-type brush.
  • 2 minutes: polish the suede leather by rubbing the surface with a brass brush and/or a crepe brush. The idea here is to unclog fibres that tend to clump together over time.
  • 2 minutes: clean your shoes with a special suede spray and use your scraper to brush it in.
  • 1 minute: waterproof your Derbies using a special spray.

And that's it. It really doesn't take long and you can be sure that this will pay off in the long run.

FYI, YOUR COMFORT DERBY SHOES ARE SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Comfort Derby Shoes:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being taken apart, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. However, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. By giving rather than selling, you're contributing to a virtuous cycle and helping those who need it most.
  • Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Comfort Derby Shoes have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Comfort Derby Shoes.
