Care Guide for the Button-Down Oxford Shirt

Some shirts you couldn't care less about. And then there's this one.

If you're here, you've invested — and you want to look after it properly. Good on you.

Here are our tips for keeping your Button-Down Oxford Shirt looking its best. Don't worry — you don't need straight As to get it right.

Step 1: Washing

Nothing tricky here. Machine wash on a standard 30°C cycle.

If you want to be extra careful, grab a mesh laundry bag — it'll cut down on friction during the spin.

On the spin cycle, keep it under 800 rpm. Any more and your shirt might get dizzy — and let you know about it.

Step 2: Drying

Tumble dryers? Hard pass. Bad for the fibres, bad for the planet, bad for your energy bill. No upside.

Straight out of the machine, put it on a hanger — it'll smooth out as it dries and be good to go in a few hours. Ideally somewhere well-ventilated and out of direct sunlight (to avoid long-term fading, you know the drill).

Step 3: Ironing

Some people skip it. We don't.

Ironing board, hot iron (max 150°C) on a cotton setting, and a layer of fabric between your Oxford and the soleplate — that's all you need to press it like a pro.

FYI, OUR Button-Down Oxford Shirt AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Button-Down Oxford Shirt:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing yours for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing it on to a friend, family member or donating it to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • No microplastics are released during washing. Unlike many garments, our Button-Down Oxford Shirts have been designed to not release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Button-Down Oxford Shirt.
