This virgin wool keeps its raw personality—a slightly rugged charm you’ll notice as soon as you touch it. That’s the real beauty of untreated wool: it always takes you back to its roots. The dobby weave locks every fibre into a seriously dense, hardwearing structure. And the brushed finish gives it a lofty, carded texture for an authentic heritage look.

Roomy but not ridiculous

We’ll level with you: it’s a roomy fit. An overshirt works best when it has a bit of space to play with. But no need to go overboard. Ours keeps its dignity and can still easily accommodate a shirt or light jumper so you can layer away. If it feels a bit floaty when worn just over a tee, it’s completely normal. Its natural habitat is worn over things - that’s when it really comes into its own, as its name suggests.

Love of the invisible kind

Thanks for asking, you lot never hold back. Ready yourselves for plenty of surprises: at first glance, it looks pretty straightforward, a bit on the rustic side. But the good people at MOD MARY in Bulgaria have worked their magic with the precision of a Swiss watchmaker and packed character into every corner. ◦

  • Each button is carved from corozo (a full 15mm to be exact) and hand-sewn in place, one at a time.
  • Those patch pockets (complete with tidy button-down flaps) are finished with millimetre-perfect topstitching, using sturdy cordonnet thread that’s going absolutely nowhere.
  • See also these beautiful colours, some of them marled. To obtain this sort of depth, you have to weave several threads of different colours together. So no, it’s not just the devil in the detail - it’s us too.
