A winter shirt experience as bitter as winter 1709? No way. 4 issues to watch out for
1
A shirt that shrinks in the wash
2
A fabric that pills like crazy…
3
…or even worse, one that itches
4
A naff cut and selection of colours
On such a winter’s day
Clean cotton
This might not come as a surprise to you, but for this winter-y special we tracked down a top-notch cotton from Turkey, which is certified to the highest standard, meaning no nasty chemicals were used along the way.
Time to dye
We used a few different dyeing techniques here, and not just for a laugh... For the Camel Marl and checkered options, we opted for a yarn dye, while the Navy version is garment dyed. Why? Well, we like to use the best tools for each job. Only makes sense.
Where there’s a twill…
The fabrics themselves are produced by the cotton-whizzes TMG, in Portugal. What you’re looking at is a 180g/m2 cotton twill that’s been brushed for super softness.
Pattern recognition
We’ve pattern matched the two check versions, meaning the patterns on each panel line up with one another. It’s a bit more time-consuming, but worth it for the clean finish it creates. No jarring junctions here, smooth plaid all the way.
A famous fit
The neat, tailored fit we’ve used here is the same you’ll find in our classic Button Down Oxford shirts. We’ve been refining the cut for years, and we’re chuffed with the results. We think you will be, too.
The world’s your oyster
Don’t forget the details, that’s our motto. Instead of plastic buttons which snap and chip, we’ve sourced mother-of-pearl ones from the Italian button supremos at Uniesse.
Something to rely on
There’s nothing worse than a sad, wilting collar spoiling your look. But fear not, there are no such issues here. This perfectly proportioned collar is lightly fused, so it keeps its shape.
It’s a process
We didn’t get this shirt right first go. In fact, we rarely get anything spot on to start with. Who does, eh? But we think it’s worth putting the time in to make sure each product is as good as it can be. This one took three prototypes and three fittings before we were happy.
Variety is the spice of life
You warned us against a naff selection of colours and patterns, and we took that advice to heart. This cold-weather classic is available in seven colours and patterns: Red check, Navy, Camel marl, Blue check, Camel check, Grey marl and Tartan green and Violet. That’s some impressive variety… you might want to block out some mulling time in your calendar for this one.
Traceability
What goes into making your Winter Shirt. The materials have travelled a total of 5,829 km (3,621 miles) from field to doormat.
