From Dwight Schrute to Balenciaga's "Dad wear" collection – the short-sleeved shirt's reputation has been trodden on and turning into the upper body’s equivalent to capri pants. But a return to simplicity was all it took to restore its honour, and that's exactly what we've done with our Cuban Collar Shirt. Forget everything you thought you knew about the short sleeve shirt, and let its charm and laidback appeal win you over.
The Key is the Fit
One of the biggest issues with the short-sleeved shirt was its fit. Many tried to turn it into a formal garment, but that was a mistake. This model is inherently casual and should only be treated that way. So, with our Cuban Collar Shirt, we focused on a loose fit, generous sleeves, a short length for wearing untucked, and two pleats in the back for maximum comfort.
The Iconic Cuban Collar
Sometimes known as the "shark collar", the Cuban is a flat collar without a stand, featuring notched lapels with clean, graphic lines. Unapologetically casual, it elevates the torso and sets itself apart from traditional shirt collars. More than just a detail, it's a style statement.
Dancing with the Loop
Despite its summery function, the occasional chilly night warrants the option to button it up all the way. Hence, the small loop on the right side of the Cuban collar, allowing to close shop up top if needed. In crafting our Cuban Collar Shirt, we've honoured this aesthetic and utilitarian tradition. Pretty neat, isn't it?
Two Materials as Light as Air
Our shirt comes in two variations: 100% organic cotton and a blend of 55% organic cotton and 45% Tencel. Both prioritise lightness, but offer slightly different properties. The plain cotton is dry and textured, while the blend is silkier and airier. Two options, same spirit : a breezy armour that floats on your skin. All models weigh in at 120g/m2 except the denim stone, which is a tad heavier at 155g/m2.
The Most Earth-friendly Buttons
When it comes to buttoning up sustainably, we've chosen buttons that are as eco-conscious as they come. The Stone Cuban Collar Shirt features eco-gala buttons, crafted from a light and sturdy natural material derived from the casein milk protein. For the other models, we've opted for corozo buttons, also known as 'vegetable ivory'. It’s made from the fruit of Tagua Palm in Ecuador. They can’t be farmed so using them supports rainforest conservation, and local economies that collect them by hand. A great choice all round.

We're not just offering one or two, but four vibrant colours to brighten up your summer wardrobe. On the more subtle side, we have a striking blue stone denim and a solid yet vibrant beige. For those craving a bit more flair, we've introduced custom floral patterns inspired by Hawaiian Aloha Shirts, adding an extra layer of casual sophistication. Choose from a refreshing green or a rich burgundy – perfect for those seeking summer style with a twist.
Effortless Care
No fuss required when it comes to caring for them: simply throw your shirt in the washing machine at 30°C with a light spin programme (800 rpm maximum), and you're good to go. Remember to avoid the tumble dryer and opt for air-drying in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight if possible.

We deliver worldwide, with the cost being automatically calculated at checkout. For all deliveries to the UK, within the European Union, Switzerland and Norway we charge a flat fee of 9€. If you get the wrong size or colour, fear not, we will exchange your item no questions asked. These are free for orders in the European Union and the UK. For all other countries, we only ask you to cover the cost of the return and we’ll take care of the cost of sending out any exchange. Just log into your Asphalte account and we’ll get that sorted.
