The Cord Provides

CORD = COTTON

If beanz meanz Heinz, then cord most certainly means cotton. Ours is organic, it comes from India, and it weighs in at a reassuringly hearty 360g/m2. Cord is historically a workwear fabric, so it’s only right that it’s made to stand up to a bit of stick.

A WALE OF A TIME

Our corduroy is what’s known as needlecord. It’s not a super-chunky jumbo-cord, and instead is made up of tightly packed, narrow wales for a sharper, sleeker look. As Tom Jones will attest, you can’t beat livin’ in wales.

TAILORED ‘N’ TAPERED

You told us you were tired of big, baggy cords and wanted something a bit sharper, so we made our Cord Trousers using the same shape as our Ultimate Jeans. They’re not skinny by any means, but they’ve got a tailored, gently tapered shape that works just as well with boots as it does with trainers and tennis shoes.

FIVE ALIVE

Our cords are of the ‘five pocket’ variety—with two angled front pockets, two rear patch pockets and the all-important ticket pocket. We know that smartphones have eradicated the need for tickets, but still, these little pockets are always handy for storing a rare commemorative coin you can’t bear to be without.

RATHER RIVETING

The pockets are secured with some seriously sturdy copper rivets. These have been holding pockets together since the middle of the 19th century, and if they’re tough enough for tobacco chewin’ gold miners, they’re probably tough enough for an after-lunch mooch about town.

RAISE THE BAR

To make sure there were no weak links, we also added bar tacks to the pocket entries and the belt loops. These little rows of heavy stitching are a classic workwear detail and help to take the strain and relieve stress. Think of them like Ibuprofen, for your trousers.

BAGS OF FLAVOUR

We made our pocket bags from super-soft organic cotton. Not only is this stuff nice and tough, but it’s really comfortable too. Your hands will thank us. Your thighs too.

COLOURFUL CORDUROY

Contrary to popular belief, corduroy is made in colours other than brown. OK, we did make some light brown ones—it’d be rude not to—but seeing as your wish is our command, we also whipped up a few other tasteful tones. Think of it like a corduroy rainbow… if a rainbow only had four colours, of course.

NOT JUST FOR AUTUMN

Corduroy might be the Official Fabric of Autumn™, but thanks to its highly versatile nature it's also perfect for winter and spring too. Extra points for anyone who wears these with a matching jacket for the full geography tuxedo.
