POWER CORD
CUTTING THE SLACK
You told us you were tired of billowy, baggy cords. You wanted something a bit sharper. We made our Cord Trousers using the same carefully refined shape as our Ultimate Jeans. They’re far from skinny, but they’ve got a tailored look with legs that gently taper from the knee. That means these’ll work just as well with boots as with a pair of trainers.
FIVE ALIVE
We took more than just the cut of our jeans on board when designed these. We pinched bits from them in the pocket department too. Our cords are of the ‘five pocket’ variety, with two angled front pockets, two rear patch pockets and the all-important ‘ticket pocket’. We know you might not use a lot of paper tickets, but it’s handy for small change, gum, and semi-precious stones you find on the way to work…
Fabrico Italiano
If beanz meanz Heinz, then cord most certainly means cotton. Ours is organic, woven by the experts at TMB in Italy and it weighs in at a reassuringly hearty 360g/m2. Cord’s historically a workwear material, so while these might look ready for a nice dinner out, they’ll still stand up to a bit of stick in the workshop if needs be.
A WALE OF A TIME
Our corduroy is what’s known as needlecord. As you might have guessed, that means it’s not a super-chunky, jumbo-cord. It’s made up of tightly packed, narrow wales for a sharper, sleeker look. On top of that, we’ve sanforized the material — which is a hi-tech word for ‘pre-shrunk’ — meaning your cords’ll stay the size they were when you ordered ‘em.
COLOURFUL CORDUROY
Contrary to popular belief, corduroy can be made in colours other than brown. You told us you wanted some punchy colours in the mix, so we obliged. Think of it like a corduroy rainbow… if a rainbow only had four colours, of course.
BAGS OF FLAVOUR
We made our pocket bags from super-soft organic cotton. Not only is this stuff nice and tough, but it’s really comfortable too. Your hands will thank us. Your thighs too. On the topic of pockets, we secured these with some sturdy copper rivets, a nod to the mid-19th century working origins of the cords. If they’re tough enough for tobacco chewin’ gold miners, they’re probably tough enough for an after-lunch mooch about town.
RAISING THE BAR
To make sure there were no weak links, we also added bar tacks to the heavy-traffic areas: pocket entries, inside thighs and the belt loops. These little rows of heavy-duty stitching are a classic workwear detail and help to take the strain off overworked fabric.
Zip Zip hooray
Solid slacks aren’t much good if the zipper pings off a few weeks into things. So we selected a zip that’s more than a match for the heavy-weight cord and solid details. If you know anything about zips, you’ll know we've given you the cream of the crop: the classic YKK. No nervy bathroom stops here.
NOT JUST FOR AUTUMN
Corduroy might be the Official Fabric of Autumn™, but thanks to its highly versatile nature it's also perfect for winter and spring too. Tidy cut + stand-up material = a pair of trousers that’ll be ready for anything twelve months a year. As versatile as jeans, but easier on your legs. Give the denim a few days off.
