Black full-grain leather
These were the top problems you'd had with brogues in the past.
1
The leather marks and stains in no time
2
They feel stiff and uncomfortable
3
The outsole doesn’t go the distance
4
The leather is poor quality
Go brogue
Royale leather
The Best Brogues’ leather was sourced from our renowned Spanish tanning partners Picusa, and from their Royale range no less. We chose this particular, textured full-grain leather for two reasons: it’s both supple and hardy, and it marks less easily than smoother leather.
Maximum comfort
Get ready for unprecedented comfort levels. This sort of low-cut and heeled footwear requires serious support for the arch of the wearer’s foot. You wanted these to be comfy from the word go, so we made the inlay slightly curved to cushion your feet. Consider these brogues and your feet a match made in shoe heaven.
It promises to be a Goodyear
The Goodyear method of assembly has been around for 150 years and is known for its durability and robustness. It’s a seriously solid foundation that keeps this brogue together and makes them virtually unsinkable. All the lower parts of the shoe are sewn together for optimal durability and water-tightness. The other benefit of a Goodyear welt? When - eventually - you wear these soles thin, you can have your brogues resoled by your local cobbler. Don’t get too excited about that though, these soles’ll take some serious wear.
Walking on water
The storm welt’s defining characteristic is the way the welt lightly curls up around the base of the shoe’s upper, making your Best Brogues extra water-tight. Unless you’re planning on swimming in these, your socks should be looking at an extended dry spell.
Waxing the Tips
Our usual attention to detail is on display here, and extends to the very tip of the laces, made with waxed cotton for extra durability. No fraying or snapping here. This time you won’t end up with mini-laces after the first trot around the block.
Sole survivors
To keep you on your toes, we never shy away from a little innovation. This time it’s an outsole from Portugal. It’s ultra hard-wearing, tested and re-tested to earn our stamp of approval. Literally.
It’s all in the detail
Brogues are made of several leather layers finely patterned with decorative perforations. We added our own unique touch to the Best Brogues with the outline of a flower traced on the toe, earning 8.9/10 for style from you. Tough shoes with an elegant touch.
Ideal proportions
These aren’t all technical prowess and hardware, they’re also perfectly proportioned. Toes that aren’t too pointy, or too rounded. A profile that’s not too hefty, or too sleek. We spent a long time getting just the right balance for a neat-looking pair of shoes that are solid and smart, but stop way short of the pretentious line. Shoes you can wear with jeans or a suit.
All the production steps for your Best Brogues
What goes into making your Best Brogues? The materials have travelled a total of 2,461 km (1,529 miles) from field to doormat.
