Soft Landing for Summer’s End

The end of summer has a habit of sneaking up on you. One minute you're soaking up the autumnal rays, the next you’re shivering in the evening breeze.

That's when it's best to have the Heavy Cotton Jumper to hand.

The coolest for cool evenings

We've all been there. Friends and family gathered around a table on a terrace somewhere, a few bottles of rosé down and citronella candles burning. August is drawing to a close and is starting to catch everyone off guard. A timely reminder that summer’s days are numbered.

That’s usually when your father-in-law announces: “I don’t know about you, but I’m going to grab a jumper.” Smart move pops, don’t want to be getting a chill at your age.

But the question is: which jumper?

He might go for his trusted V-neck, but what about you?

Still too hot for wool, definitely not something clingy. What you need is a knit that’s soft but structured. A natural fibre that sits nicely without restricting you.

In short, the Heavy Cotton Jumper.

The Heavy Cotton Jumper

This new addition to our jumpers nails the brief for breezy summer nights and mild autumn days: the cut, the fabric, the knit – all spot on.

A cut that knows how to breathe

It’s the first time we’ve developed this kind of fit at Asphalte. Loads of you asked for it, so we co-developed it with you to make sure it matched what you had in mind. It’s comfy, substantial, but refreshingly loose – a big shift from the more fitted cuts you’ve always asked for. We’re not saying you’ll look like a flying squirrel, but it’s definitely got more volume than usual.

The risk with this kind of silhouette? Looking like you're selling healing stones at Glasto.

So we went precision mode: well-balanced proportions, reinforced ribbing, and an ultra-stable knit to keep everything in place. The ribbing? Extra wide 1x1 ribs, backed with elastane. As for the knit… read on.

The pearl rib, rock solid

With a fit this loose, stretch is the enemy. Go with the wrong stitch, and your jumper'll be down by your knees by week three. Enter pearl rib. One of the most stable knits out there. It’s a double stitch, meaning it uses twice the yarn of a classic single knit. Translation: twice the density, twice the weight and twice the satisfaction.

It’s knitted tight too. Whereas classic ribbing can stretch 30%, pearl rib only budges about 5%. That means it keeps its shape without bagging or sagging.

And yes, the stitch pattern forms little “pearls” across the surface. Nice to touch. Even nicer to look at.

A cotton that plays it cool

The final trump card is the yarn. 100% organic cotton – perfect for summer and shoulder seasons, way more breathable than wool, but still substantial. Soft, absorbent, and sturdy enough to see you through.

We’ve used compact-spun yarn: long fibres, twisted tight. It’s less fluffy, more hard-wearing, and built to stave off the dreaded bobbles. No faff, no fuss. Just a beautifully balanced heavyweight cotton knit.

Preorder next Tuesday

This Heavy Cotton Jumper will be available for preorder from next Tuesday at the very affordable price of 89€. We remind you that we're talking about a 100% organic cotton pearl rib knit made by the famous Maison Inarbel in Portugal.

With preorders, it's always first come, first delivered. If you're quick enough, yours will be with you by end of July.

If you miss it, you might find it at a stock sale, in limited sizes and colours, and the price will then rise to 119€. Blame the inventory costs.
