Contrary to popular belief, cashmere actually loves water. In fact, cashmere loves water so much that it gets more beautiful and softer with each wash. As long as you follow the rules, that is.
Here are our tips.
Washing your Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper
For us, hand washing remains the best way to care for your little beauty. After 7-8 wears, we recommend soaking it in cold water (20°C max) with a dash of "Wool and Delicates" detergent.
After about ten minutes, rinse with clean water, and move on to the next step.
For the lazy among us, you can always toss your knit in the machine on an ultra-gentle wool cycle, at 20°c max and 500 spin speed.
Drying your Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper
At this point, avoid wringing or spinning it, which would seriously damage the fibres. Instead, we suggest folding and gently pressing it to remove as much water as possible. After that, you can lay it flat, making sure to avoid direct sunlight (UV rays and dyes don't play well together, as you know).
Quick tip: you can place it on a terry cloth towel to speed up the process. It'll absorb the water quickly and leave your knit dry in just a few hours.
Fancy an Iron?
In our opinion, this step isn't essential. If you're a bit of a perfectionist and want your cashmere as smooth as silk, you can give it a quick press before storing. When you do, select the wool setting on your iron and never exceed 110°C.
Storing Your Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper
You probably know this already, but it bears repeating: knitwear and hangers don't get along. Hanging your knits is the fastest way to distort them, while folding them at home is your best bet.
If you have cedar wood or lavender sachets handy, feel free to place them in your closet: they're natural moth repellents that will prevent your precious items from becoming a feast for those nasty critters.
Tips & Tricks
If you pamper your Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper like this, you can be sure it'll stay with you for years. To go the extra mile, here's what you can do:
- Invest in a de-pilling comb. Even though we select long fibres and tighten the knit as much as possible to spare you the fuzz, your Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper will inevitably experience some pilling here and there. To keep it looking sharp, you can buy a small comb and gently scrape its surface to remove excess material.
- Vacuum-pack it during summer. Off-season, you can wash your Cashmere and place it in a vacuum-sealed bag to protect it from dust and insects. A great way to keep it safe between May and August when you won't be wearing it.
FYI, OUR HALF-ZIP CASHMERE JUMPER AND THE PLANET
Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Half-Zip Cashmere Jumpers:
- They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing yours for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing it on to a friend, family member or donating it to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
- Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Half-Zip Cashmere Jumper have been designed with 100% cashmere wool so as not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
- They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
- It contains 65% recycled materials. Alongside 35% virgin cashmere, this jumper features 65% recycled cashmere. Best of both worlds, without the compromise.
