Care guide for the High-Top Sneakers

As your gramps probably told you (and she was right): better be safe than sorry. We're here to help. Here's our two-part battle plan to keep your new High-Top Sneakers looking absolutely splendid.

Chapter 1 - Prevention

Here are a few tips for regular sneaker maintenance:

  • Avoid wearing them several days in a row. As with all your shoes, alternating is the key to longevity and allows the leather to return to its natural shape.
  • Store them in dry places, away from both sunlight and moonlight (yes, really).
  • Keep them in a healthy environment - absolutely not humid - to prevent early leather degradation.
  • Clean them regularly rather than waiting for dirt to become a permanent resident. Ideally, you'd clean them after each wear, which takes just 60 seconds per shoe (we're timing you). We doubt many of you will actually do this, but at least we've said it.

For proactive cleaning:

  • For the suede versions: use a suede-specific brush or eraser.
  • For the smooth leather version: opt for cleaning foam or special soap, then wipe with chamois leather.

Your best bet is to invest in a proper sneaker care kit. It's a small outlay that quickly pays for itself, especially since you definitely have at least one slightly knackered pair lurking in your wardrobe.

Chapter 2 - Cure

If you've ignored Step 1 or your shoes are crying out for a proper clean, you have two options:

  • We'll say it again, but this time it's non-negotiable: to properly clean your sneakers, get yourself a care kit and brush in the direction of the leather grain.
  • If you lack the time or prefer leaving it to the professionals, sneaker cleaning services are popping up everywhere.

Thanks!
