Serious Hard Cases
Hopefully you know this by now, but we aren’t the types to call something ‘tough’ if we don’t mean it. So, rest assured, we made these seriously hard-wearing. Created with classic workwear credentials in mind and constructed from heavy-duty, 360g/m2 duck canvas, the Tough Trousers will take a beating and keep coming back for more. Unlike those floppy army surplus combats you’ve been tempted by in the past, these have serious staying power and a tidy cut all sewn up.
Plain sailing
The material’s two thick weft threads and two thick warp threads do the trick when it comes to hardiness, like a fabric-tag team designed expressly to keep your slacks in business. It’s a material so double-hard they used to make sails from it in the old days. As a bonus, the weave lends the material a lovely texture. Plain sailing as far as longevity goes.
Stone wash soft
‘Hard-wearing’ shouldn’t mean ‘hard-to-wear’. We gave our duck canvas a prewash to make it feel great from the first wear. Stone washing might sound intense, but it makes the fabric softer, booting that fresh-out-of-the-box finish into touch, and making this some seriously comfy, and soft canvas. Thank you, stones.
The French touch
The duck canvas we used for these is made by Telatex. These guys are the French fabric maestros, with 160 years of experience in making seriously sturdy, technical materials. We think that sort of CV’s pretty reassuring when it comes to your trousers... Consider these hi-spec kecks.
Workwear oomph, plus a tidy cut
You know how much we love workwear heritage... but being ambitious folks we wanted to meld the work trousers’ robust credentials with a neat, comfortable fit for the modern man. The Tough Trousers pay tribute to those ultra-durable duck canvas slacks of old while updating the look with a tidy fit that brings you the comfort of tailored jeans with all the outdoorsy appeal of a fresh, fireside brew on a mountain top.
No stress
Unlike a lot of clothes out there posing as tough guys, these have been put to the test, and came out on top in all rounds. They scored a stonking 4/5 on the rub and post-wash budging tests and a knockout 5/5 for pilling. Tough by name, tough by...
Bags of quality
Pockets shouldn’t be an afterthought, especially not on trousers built with comfort and durability joint top of the priority list. We put a lot of work into ours, with riveted Italian-style pockets including a ticket pocket for stashing all those... OK, that one’s a nod to tradition. We also added two welt pockets on the back with a pointy 6.5cm flap. The reinforced organic cotton pocket bags, made by the experts at Cervotessile, add more workwear cred without denting the comfort factor.
Indestructible
We already mentioned these were tough, right? Well, in case you had any doubts, let us get into the nitty-gritty... The waist and the fork are designed to allow for heavy lifting, employing the same tricks that make our Jeans such a fan favourite. We went with three zamak metal buttons on a canvas button fly with brass rivets, six belt loops securely fastened with stop points, and bartacks around the inside leg. Tough we said. Tough we meant.
Ready for anything, for years to come
Robust canvas manufactured by the experts, lovingly prepared with minds on both comfort and durability: the Tough Trousers are a respectful nod to the no-nonsense workwear of old, with a slick, comfortable cut that allows you to wear them for just about anything. For years to come.
