Blue pin stripe
These are the problems you'd had with smart shirts in the past.
1
They creased too easily
2
The shape wasn’t sharp enough
3
The cut was too loose
4
The buttons went flying
The shirt that's smarter than your phone
Less is more
The key to a seriously smart shirt is that it should work with your suit, not try to run the show. That’s why we binned all those busy details and redundant flourishes that clutter some dress shirts. We threw out the pointless breast pocket, did away with fussy pleats and got shot of the gussets at the back. The Classic Shirt’s shape comes from its perfected side seams, leaving the rest of it clean and minimal: a refined piece of formal wear.
Superior fabric
We chose top-quality poplin for this shirt, it’s a robust, tightly woven cotton fabric with an ultra-smooth finish. Weighing in at 105g/m2, with the sky blue version a tad denser at 125g/m2, the Classic Shirt’s warm enough for winter, but won’t leave you steamy at those summer dos. And here’s the bonus: it’s a double twisted yarn that’s crease-resistant by nature.
Cult classic collar
A substandard collar’s enough to sink any shirt. We went for the neat lines of a classic French collar, with a 6cm point. It’s specifically designed to sit right and feel great, with a tie or without. On the subject of ties, we made sure you can do up the top button without getting light-headed. We kept the collar’s fusing light, so there’s some give. It won’t look like you bought it on the way to the do, but thanks to built-in washing machine and ironing-proof stays, it’ll stay in shape for many a party season to come.
Fit for purpose
Unlike a lot of smart shirts, this one’s actually designed to be worn with a suit. Imagine that. The cut’s neatly tailored, but not fitted. It’ll sit well with most body types, and on top of that we made it 3cm longer than our regular shirts, so it’ll stay tucked in for more than two minutes.
On the button
We opted for an elegant, low-vis French button placket. No seams, ruffs or pleats on show. We chose understated, four-hole, bio-based buttons, all of which are cross-stitched for strength and easy repairs down the line. Finally, we gave the top button a raise for its efforts, nudging it up 2cm for a tidier look, should you go open-collar once the speeches are out of the way.
Standout cuffs
For a shirt to work well with or without a suit jacket, you need the cuffs to be bang on the money. The Classic Shirt’s cuffs have subtly rounded edges for a smooth, understated look. We opted for just a single vent-per-sleeve, keeping any risk of busyness well at bay.
The only hard call
Having made a shirt this smart, it seemed a waste to only offer it in white, minimal credentials notwithstanding… We picked four more — less formal — options to add to the mix, including a new sky blue/ochre striped version.
Bases covered, in style
Your big day or someone else’s, suit or no suit, tie or open collar, tucked in or not… If you’re going to have a smart shirt, why not have one that’s designed to do it all. That’s the Classic Shirt. Look no further.
