The Overcoat Care Guide

WHAT’S UNDER THE WOOL?

In a nutshell, this Overcoat is your best mate for cold days and your style secret weapon.

It's crafted from exceptional wool with impeccable design. And like all magnificent things, it has one simple request: give it as much love as it gives you. Here are a few tips worth keeping in mind:

ALTERATIONS

Don't panic – we're perfectionists too. The Overcoat is cut to a length that suits most people (based on our questionnaires), but there's nothing stopping you from visiting a tailor.

  • If you're on the shorter side, you can take up the coat by 2.5cm (same for the sleeves, but leave the buttonhole alone).
  • If you're tall, you can lengthen everything by up to 2cm.

HOW TO CARE FOR IT

Sometimes it's best to leave things to the professionals. If, like us, your skills are more directed towards creating stains rather than removing them, we recommend dry cleaning only – this beauty doesn't do water.

Pro tip: always check your clothes before leaving the dry cleaner. Walking out without checking means you've accepted any potential damage, and repairs will be on your dime (if repairs are even possible).

Timing-wise, we suggest booking it in once a year, after winter.

At home, simply hang it on a wide hanger to maintain the shape of the collar and shoulders. When summer rolls around, put it in a garment bag with some moth repellent before tucking it away until next season. (Don't skip this step. Trust us, this wool is like a Michelin-starred restaurant for moths.)

And if you ever feel the urge to iron it, you can steam it or use the wool setting (single dot on your iron), making sure to place a clean cloth between the wool and the iron to avoid making the wool shiny.

FYI, OUR OVERCOAT AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Overcoats:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing yours for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing it on to a friend, family member or donating it to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Overcoats have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Overcoat.

Thanks !
