Washing Your Heavy Zip Knit
If you don't see sheep taking baths every other minute, it's because their wool is naturally self-cleaning (or because you're not living in the mountains). In other words, fresh air is all it takes to remove pesky bacteria and deodorise wool. The good news? The same goes for your Heavy Zip Knit.
We recommend not washing it too often: instead, give it regular airings on a broad-shouldered hanger (zip closed), and it'll stay fresh as a daisy. Genuinely fresh, because wool naturally resists bad odours.
Depending on how often you wear it, you'll need to wash it once or twice a year. When that time comes, here's what to do to keep it looking its best:
- First and foremost: hand wash in cold water if possible. If you must use a machine, please follow these three guidelines: Wool programme, cold water (30°C max), and no more than 400 rpm spin
- For wringing it out, forget the spin cycle and do it by hand... but gently. If you twist the knit aggressively, you risk damaging the fibres and distorting the shape. If it's too waterlogged, try rolling it flat in a towel to absorb excess moisture.
What About Drying?
No tumble dryers, please. We strongly recommend air-drying your Heavy Zip Knit, ideally laid flat. NEVER on a hanger – the weight of the water-soaked garment could stretch it out of shape as it dries.
Pro tip: lay it flat on a bed with a towel underneath works perfectly.
To Iron or Not to Iron?
You can iron it to reshape the wool, but only on a low setting. By low, we mean between 110°C and 130°C.
We'd strongly advise using smooth, continuous movements with your iron, avoiding lingering too long in one spot. This prevents leaving marks on your Heavy Zip Knit.
Oh, and don't be shy with the steam function – your knit will thank you for it.
FYI, OUR HEAVY ZIP KNIT AND THE PLANET
Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Heavy Zip Knit:
- It’s 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day its services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing yours for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing it on to a friend, family member or donating it to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
- Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Heavy Zip Knit has been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
- It does not contain any hazardous materials. It’s manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
- It does not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Heavy Zip Knit.
Thanks!
