The Asphalte Weekend Bag is the getaway companion you've been waiting for. The fabric, size and finish are all optimal to make it the perfect sidekick for all your weekend getaways for years to come.
Now that we've said that, we must remind you of one important point: proper care counts a great deal in extending your item’s life expectancy.
Here's how to pamper this one.
Take care of it every day
We're not going to pretend we don't know: the Weekend bag is one of the items that’ll get the most wear when in use. It's always on the front line and knows by heart the taste of tar, the smell of bunkers, the asphyxiation of cabins, the rubbing of sand, the rain and all the rest.
If you avoid overloading it, turning it into an umbrella at the first shower or dragging it along the ground as if it had wheels, we think you can easily multiply its life expectancy by two or three.
Brush it all over
While we've applied a water-repellent treatment to the fabric to avoid seepage, we know of no primer to counter everyday onslaughts (dust, debris, stains etc). The only thing you can do to remove the dirt is to give it a few brushes once or twice a week.
No washing machines please
We've said it before and we'll say it again: we don't recommend putting the Weekend Bag in the wash. Instead:
- Use a damp cloth soaked in mild soap or detergent and rub the stains on the surface in a circular motion.
- If the stains are deeper, add a dab of white vinegar. Warning: some websites claim that a capful of ammonia is more effective, but we're not really convinced. In our opinion, it's more likely to attack your bag's water-repellent coat and maybe even the cotton canvas.
- Rinse the cleaned areas with another cloth soaked in clear water (without running your bag underwater).
- Leave to dry in the open air, preferably outside, but not in direct sunlight so as not to ruin the dye.
If you can't get rid of stubborn stains (grease, wine, etc.), your best bet is to take it to the dry cleaners.
FYI, OUR WEEKEND BAG AND THE PLANET
Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Weekend Bags.
- They’re 100% recyclable once taken apart, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. However, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. By giving rather than selling, you're contributing to a virtuous cycle and helping those who need it most.
- Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Weekend Bags have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
- They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
- They do not contain any recycled materials. We try and incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Weekend Bag.
Thanks!
