Care Guide for the Ventile® Parka

With it, you'll be singing in the rain for decades if you take good care of it. Here's how!

A professional parka

Let's face it: this Parka is the most technical piece we've ever produced. But that doesn't mean we can't take a few precautions, especially when it comes to cleaning it. If you can, take your parka to your local dry cleaner. Professional cleaning will (usually) save you a nasty surprise. It's a worthwhile investment.

PS: 2 times a year is more than enough.

Friendly tip: Remember to check your clothes when you pick them up from the dry cleaners. That way, if you spot any damage, you can let them know before you step out of the door. Once you’ve left the building, they’re much less likely to take responsibility for any scrapes and tears that cropped up in the wash.

Cotton on

Your Ventile® Parka is made entirely from robust cotton, but it deserves special care to keep it performing at its best. Here's how.

As said, we recommend that you leave it in the hands of experts, at the dry cleaners, for gentle dry-cleaning, only when really necessary.

For those who don't want to go to the dry cleaners, hand washing is also an option, but take it easy. Lay out your Parka with all pockets open on a flat surface, let’s say the bonnet of your Ford Gran Torino (or a table will do) and start rubbing. Remember, gently. Very gently.

After several washes, you'll need to reactivate the DWR treatment with products suitable for cotton.

Drying it

Obviously, do not tumble dry or bleach. That would be a very serious crime, in our opinion. Let your Ventile® Parka do its job, resting comfortably on a hanger—a pretty hanger, if possible, that is wide enough to keep its shape.

Important reminder: ironing is ok but don’t push it: 150°C maximum if necessary.

Not just East Stains

Make sure to remove all stains appropriately:

  • Soapy water + white vinegar for mud.
  • Solid natural soap for grease (oil, sauces, etc), leave to dry for an hour on the stain before cleaning with clear water.
  • Alcohol vinegar for dabbing on sweat and perspiration marks.
  • White vinegar + methylated spirits + water on a soaked cloth for wine, beer and other stains.

When it’s time for it to take a welcome break and hibernate, place your parka on a sturdy hanger (wooden if possible) and keep it away from light, better yet, in a sleeve, you'll save it from rubbing and dust, for which it will be very grateful. We promise.

FYI, OUR VENTILE PARKA AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Ventile® Parkas:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • No microplastics are released during washing. Unlike many garments, our Ventile® Parkas have been designed not to release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Ventile® Parka.

Thanks!
