Care Guide for the Sailor's Jumper

All hands on deck

We worked with our makers to ensure your Sailor’s Jumper has a long lifespan. But it is still a piece of knitwear and a bit of simple care to stay looking shipshape.

Getting your head around it shouldn't be too hard, whether you need to open 2, 3 or 4 buttons to do so. To each his own. But in any case, no need to pull on the collar, your jumper might pull a face.

Washing it

Roll up the sleeves and gently dry clean. Yes, it's a bit of an ask, but it's the best way to look after your wool so it stays beautiful for years.

Failing that, you can bring it to the dry cleaners once a year. Maybe twice if you’ve fallen overboard.

And if you really, really, really need to give it a spin in the wash, opt for a delicate cold setting using a special wool detergent. Above all, don't use chlorine, it's at home, taking in the sea air rather than the pool’s worst.

And on dry land?

Take it easy on the spinning. Don't exceed 800 rpm. To dry, there's no need to hang it on the top of the mast of your sailboat: drying it flat on your clothes hanger will do the job just fine. Avoid direct sun or moonlight, and it’s all plain sailing from there.

Last tip before sailing off

It beats us but if you do wish to iron it, use a medium setting (150°C max) and a few presses only so as not to scorch the fabric.

Bonus tips

Wool is an organic fibre made of keratin. The good news is that keratin takes care of bacteria responsible for bad smells. And if your jumper has soaked up the smells of your night’s dinner or passively inhaled the nearby smoke you can easily freshen it up, by hanging it up outside for a few hours, and let the trade winds do their thing.

OUR SAILOR JUMPER AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Sailor Jumpers:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being taken apart, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. However, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. By giving rather than selling, you're contributing to a virtuous cycle and helping those who need it most.
  • Unlike many garments that release microplastics during washing, our Sailor Jumpers have been designed not to do so. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try and incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Sailor’s Jumper.

Thanks !
