Consider button-downs covered

Six years in the making

That’s how long it took us to perfect this shirt… Six years of questionnaires and prototypes. 72 months of tweaks and revisions, and God knows how many late nights. All to get our hands (and yours) on the perfect button-down shirt. We aren’t complaining mind, it was well worth the slog: flawless materials, expert production partners, a perfected casual style, and tidy finishing touches.

A wondrous weave

Oxford Shirts get their name from Oxford cloth—a hard-wearing cotton fabric that uses multiple weft threads, typically blue in the old days, crossed over an equal number of white warp threads. In this case, they go two by two. It’s tough, but tidy—far from over-dressed, but seriously smart stuff. More suave architect at lunch, less city-boy behind the desk.

A cut above

Over the years we've come up with a whole lot of shirts. We played with length, toyed with fit, and tested various degrees of ‘smartness’ (yes, that’s a technical term). For the Button-Down Oxford, we took everything you told us you liked in a shirt and binned all the rest. It’s not too short or too long, not baggy or clingy. It’s no slouch, but it’s far from stuffy. Say so long to button-downs that can’t cut the mustard.

No tie-breaker

We didn’t cut corners when it came to the collar. We put in the hours working up some clean lines and a harmonious shape that sits just right with the rest of the shirt. Designed to work just as well buttoned up or not, we even pushed those points just far enough to accommodate a tie, should you feel like upping the preppy vibes a bit.

Tuck, or don’t

The Oxford shirt’s world-renowned for its versatility as far as pairing goes. We leaned in on that, making ours just the right length… What length’s the right length, you ask? Well, it can be worn tucked in or not. You call the style shots, not the shirt.

Watch those pockets

The chest pocket’s key to the Oxford shirt’s enduring style-icon status. Inherited from military shirts, this utilitarian tweak became a must-have in the 1930s when smart-casual fashion took centre stage. Consider it a little masterclass in the art of combining the useful with the pleasurable.

Fine tuned style

What’s left to worry about when you’ve nailed the perfect Oxford cotton, a top-notch collar and spot-on cut? Well, quite a bit actually… We didn’t cut class when it came to the details on our button-down, opting for American placket, cross-stitched bio-based buttons, bartacks on the pockets for extra strength, rounded cuffs, and a horizontal top buttonhole.

The smart no brainer

‘Go-to’ sounds a bit throw-away for a shirt this perfect, but the truth of the matter is that the Button-Down Oxford’s an easy option to plump for every day. It’ll sit just right with chinos, jeans, or even a suit. Throw it over a tee, or slip it under a woolly. Pop on a tie, or go open-necked and un-tucked. We’ve done all the work perfecting its cut, how you pull it off’s down to you.

A Button Down on the up

Over the years various iterations of our button-downs have racked up pretty decent scores, between 7.7 and 8.3/10 as a rule. That’s all good, but it’s not good enough for us. We want every item we produce to be bang on the money, and that’s why we keep on working. We pored over your feedback, fiddled with our measurements and ironed out the creases. The result? The Button-Down Oxford, we’re hoping it’ll be a 10/10.
