What’s wrong with Army Shirt?

2

The fit isn’t clean cut

Basic quality standards are being ignored

It hadn’t earned its stripes

A commanding Shirt

Sir yes Sir

It's not 1948 anymore and we're facing different battles than when this shirt first saw the light of day. So to not look out of place in the modern task force, we adapted it to look authentic, with two pleated chest pockets,  yet slick to work for any given situation.

Tinker tailor soldier spy

We waved the bulkiness goodbye and tailored our Army Shirt just enough to find the sweet spot between relaxed and fitted. If you own one of our Button-Downs, then you know what we mean. Sleeves rolled up if you mean business or holding the fort neatly down with the two buttons on the cuff, it’s up to you.

Strong, army strong

Nothing is more annoying than a shirt that doesn't match its reputation. But get ready to feel the full force of 170g of a 100% cotton gabardine. Super durable for light and heavy-duty tasks, and flexible for comfort throughout the seasons. That's right, this cadet is an excellent partner for the warmer days ahead.

Unmatched, unpatched

Low hanging signed backpacks and patches on shirts, both were cool at some point in the past, and that's exactly where they can stay. The time has come for classy and understated, so we trimmed off the redundant details or stripes that scream 'military'. Your army shirt wisely whispers 'man of the world'.

Entering the service

A shirt with a history and a great future ahead. The fabric is of excellent durability that won't desert you after one season of duty, while the two pleated chest pockets serve army realness. Tailored to fit a modern man in a modern job. Now that's a tagline.

Cotton eye GI Joe

Pinch your eyes and look through the pyramids and you may see our organic cotton fields in Egypt. The crop is certified to the highest standard, which means a guaranteed safe environment for the farmworkers free from discrimination and child labour. The cotton's also organic which is less energy and water-intensive than regular cotton. Finally, no nasty products are used in its treatment, so it’s safer for the workers and the environment.

The final touches

Second stop Italy, where our cotton is spun, dyed and treated to keep a nice matte finish and added softness. The 6.5 cm collar inspired by workwear finest has a fusing to keep it standing tall at all times.

Make your pleat

Keeping it real are the two pleated chest pockets, that look neat from the outside, but keep it roomy on the inside. Extra bartacks on the sides add extra strength, so they can handle more than the casual pen & phone combo.

Goes all the way

It's called the Army Shirt, but it's ready for business and beyond. Like a Swiss Army knife, it's versatile, durable and lightweight enough to carry on through thick and thin with you every day.

The Team

Asphalte began life back in 2016, just four people with a bit of experience in fashion and a simple enough aim: making good quality clothes in a low-impact way. Things started off smoothly enough, and we were picking up a bit of momentum, but something was missing. The idea for Asphalte didn’t really come together until we got our pals on the blower and asked them, ‘Hey, what do you want us to make?’ We didn’t realise it at the time, but this was the turning point. If Asphalte were a scientific discovery, this would be called the ‘eureka!’ moment. If it were a comic book, this was the part where we get bitten by a radioactive spider.

It might not seem like a revolutionary idea. That’s because it isn’t, really. But fast forward 5 years and asking our friends what they wanted has turned into sending you lot our biannual questionnaires, and using your feedback to determine what we release. And that’s our secret weapon. It’s how we make what you want for a good price, and keep waste to a minimum.

Today our team is a bit bigger than four people. In fact, there are 64 of us now. We used to be based in Paris, but now we’ve moved out to greener pastures down in Bordeaux. Besides that, we’re still working in much the same way as when we first started, with the same ideas about quality, sustainability and our customers leading the way.
