The problems you've had with your Winter Shirts in the past
1
They shrink after a few washes
2
They pill far too quickly
3
They itch
4
The fit isn’t great
Warm heart, hard wearing
Pull the blanket to you
Once winter hits, you — like many mammals — may feel the urge to snuggle up and ride things out until spring. Luckily, we designed the Winter Shirt to offer the warmth, comfort, and chill-defying upsides of hibernation without the whole ‘being in a hole in the ground for four months, not eating’ vibe. Think of it as a soft, warming blanket, but one with sleeves and a nice collar. And a perfectly-judged, tidy but easy-going fit. You can stop gathering berries and seeds now. Winter’s sorted.
A warm fuzz
Sure, when winter rolls around you need your coats and jumpers, your hats and scarves, maybe even a muffler - if you’re into Victoriana… but don’t forget about seasonally-appropriate shirts. Cold weather offers a welcome opportunity to get cosy, and few things are cosier than a soft, much-worn, 100% cotton flannel shirt. Of course, the Winter Shirt isn’t just a layer.
Patterns or solids
In an effort to help everyone’s chilly weather dreams come true, we took two tacks when it came to the Winter Shirt. You'll find a classic, plain navy finish, and a few marled and checked ones. For those looking to up the vibrancy factor, we selected some punchy tartans with varying degrees of contrast.
Colour blends
Plaids have always been associated with the great outdoors, where certain patterns and colour combinations reflect fauna and flora of a certain region. As a tribute to this legendary pattern, we developed our own by choosing the exact layout and colour of the various threads used. In short: the two patterns you see here were created specifically for us, and for this shirt. You won't find them anywhere else.
Ribul, 1st on the finish line
Our Winter Shirts are made by long-standing partner Ribul in Portugal. Every detail is carefully thought out and executed: the patterns are perfectly aligned, the seams are impeccable, and the finishing touches are meticulously applied with the precision of a master craftsman. Every shirt that leaves their workshops is a masterpiece that not only wears well, but stands out for its impeccable quality. That's why we trust them with all our shirts.
Walk the line
We’ve pattern matched the plaids, meaning the patterns on each panel line up with one another, as does the chest pocket. It’s a bit more time consuming our end, but well worth it for a shirt that looks a little less ‘mad lumberjack’, and more ‘winter-ready smart dresser’. No jarring junctions here, smooth plaid all the way.
Fit but you know it
For this Winter Shirt we stuck with a classic cut that’s slightly tailored on the sides. It's a little looser than our Ideal Shirt’s cut, allowing for some cold weather layering if needs be, but it’s still far from baggy. It’ll look the business over a tee, or solo. Winter pairing options abound.
A stand up collar
For this version, we've revisited the French collar with a slightly longer point and a subtle curve that starts at the point and rises towards the neck. The result? A more assertive silhouette that retains that touch of elegance without sacrificing comfort. Also as wilting collars are high on our no-go list, we went all in, fusing the collar with material that’ll keep it in place, without making it feel stiff.
Another reason to love Winter
Soft, warm and comfortable, in a plain or striped fabric, or in a tartan developed specifically by us, this Winter Shirt is likely to make you love the least pleasant of seasons. You might want to start mulling over now to decide which of the three patterns you want.
Traceability
What goes into making your Winter Shirt? The materials have travelled a total of 25,800 km (16,031 miles) from field to doormat.
