Summer's just popped its collar

Serious quality Shirt that comes with carefree vibes.

The shirts that clouded your summer

Too see-through

Too baggy

Liable to lose their shape

Crease too easily

If you only packed 1 shirt for this summer

Nothing to see here

On that first point, the last thing you want is to spend out on a new linen shirt to flatter your lockdown bod, only for it to be completely see-through. There hasn’t been a man on earth who could successfully pull off a see-through shirt since Prince’s untimely demise.

It’s got to be good linen

See-through linens are generally spun from shorter staple fibres and so aren’t as dense. It was key for us that we tracked down a linen that wouldn’t compromise your modesty. That’s why we scored some top linen grown in Normandy and woven in Alsace.

A true wonder fabric

What you might not know is that linen is a natural wonder fabric – it wicks moisture in much the same way as your gym gear does, in fact, it can absorb up to 20% of the shirt’s weight in moisture. You’ll be glad of all that when the last spot of shade in the beer garden has already gone.

It’s all in the fit

You need your linen shirt to fit perfectly. Get it wrong and the shirt becomes all blousy, so you end up looking like an extra from Pirates of the Caribbean. Clearly this wouldn’t do, so ours keeps a sharply tailored silhouette, even after a long day.

Never out of shape

Another complaint you had was that linen shirts lose their shape over the course of the day. A linen shirt might look the business when you first put it on, but before you know it, it’s all but unrecognizable. You leave the house feeling like Mick Jagger, but you’re closer to Mick Hucknall by the time you reach the pub.

Cuffs you can count on

The collars and cuffs are often the first things to show signs of stress, so to counteract this we’ve used light fusing in ours. That might sound like something from a lecture on nuclear energy, but what it means in simple terms is that the collar and cuffs keep their shape, and you’ll be surprised what a difference this makes.

Here’s the twist

We’ve also taken measures to avoid the dreaded twist that too often occurs with lightweight shirts. Ours has been specifically designed to sit as it should, so your mind is free to ponder more important things. We’re not saying that the Summer Shirt will make you a great philosopher, but it certainly won’t be an impediment.

No more wrinkles (than you already have)

Let’s face it, linen is liable to crease. However, not all linens are made equal. Some are full of texture and character, while others are more akin to greaseproof paper. The linen we’ve chosen is an entirely French product, from field to factory. Apart from a guarantee of quality, this also means its environmental impact is considerably lower.

Forget about it

It’s often said that a stylish man is one who puts his clothes on with care but then forgets all about them. How can anyone relax when they’re wearing a disaster? You need clothes you can rely on, and thankfully the Summer Shirt is just that as linen is a naturally breathable fabric, ensuring you keep your cool even when those around you don’t.

The team

Four of us started Asphalte back in 2016. With a few years of experience in fashion under our belts, we wanted to make clothes, but not just any old clothes. Well-made clothes, designed to last, using great materials and made in good conditions. The guys we wanted to kit were our mates, who liked clothes but who weren't willing to go all out on a pair of jeans. We send them a survey to find out what they expected from a brand. Their answers were so enlightening that we opened the questionnaires up to everyone. Best decision we ever made.

Since then, you've been at the start of every clothes we make. We ask for your opinion on a product before we get busy with the design process, and that's the way forward for us.

We're not here to reinvent the wheel. We're here to make your wardrobe classics with the best materials and the best manufacturers. Above all, we're here to make things simple, stuff that you'll still be able to wear in ten years' time.

Over the last 4 years, we've gradually put together the dream team to make it happen on a larger scale. Today, there are 40 of us working to make your favourite clothes, in a quality that was once reserved for a handful of men.
