Why you've never found the perfect sports shorts

The Minister of Sports

New range, same commitment

We've spent months working on our very first Sports Kit, pouring in all the care and attention as we do for all the items we make. To run alongside our pure merino Sports T-Shirt, we've created a pair of high-performance shorts built to go the distance. Reliable, functional, made in Europe and begging to be taken for a spin.

A dead clever fabric

Out of all the gear that deserves a medal, the Sports Shorts come out pretty high up. In short? Their job is to withstand abuse. Abrasion, sweat, rubbing, stress, they need to stand up to it all and be seriously lightweight. On paper, it sounds like mission impossible. So, we needed a fabric with pretty unique properties. And we found it: 73% recycled polyamide and 27% elastane, a perfect harmony. That polyamide also comes loaded with Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®—an Italian invention that breathes new life into old tyres, turning them into super-strong yarn. And that elastane? Also spun in Italy and, staying true to form, woven in Italy too. By Mectex, if you're into detail.

High-performance fabric

Here's the rundown. The Ideal Sports Shorts are woven from an ultra-technical blend of recycled polyamide and elastane. But we didn't stop there. Inside, you'll find integrated cycling shorts crafted from a super durable polyamide/Lycra fabric. Tough and flexible on the outside, robust and stretchy on the inside: if Forrest Gump had had these shorts, he would never have stopped running.

Details done right

What sets our Sports Shorts apart isn't just the 100% European sourcing — it's their sheer practicality. Objectively speaking, they're easily the most useful shorts on the market. For starters, you get a comfy elasticated waistband with a drawstring that stays put — no digging in, no sagging. Add to that two well-placed, almost invisible pockets: a zipped key pocket on the left leg, with a durable nylon zip, and a separate phone pocket (fits up to 15 x 7.2cm) set into the right leg of the base layer. Topped off with a spot-on fit — but more on that in a moment.

A fit that gets it right

Whatever sport you're into, you'll be happy as Larry with this one on your hips. The fit? As versatile as it gets— not too long, not too short. The cycling shorts extend just below the quads, about three-quarters of the way down your thighs and don't protrude from under the shorts. For the curious, yes, we kept the same seam layout as on The Boxer Briefs—expect total support all the time. Underwear is entirely optional.

Finishing touches worthy of a goldsmith

Bold statement: these shorts will outclass anything you've tried before. When it comes to finishing touches, we've gone well beyond the competition. Flatlock stitching keeps chafing at bay, silicone eyelets protect the drawstring eyelets, and a side split gives you full freedom of movement. What you're looking at is a durability powerhouse.

Made in Portugal

This probably won't come as a surprise, but the vast majority of sportswear these days is churned out the other side of the world in "dubious" working and environmental conditions, let's say. Not something that can be easily ignored. Ours? Like all our clothing, it's made a lot closer to home. You already know about the Italian yarn and weaving — now for the good folks making them: Malhas Sonix in Portugal. It's a really serious configuration of European know-how, and we're pretty excited by the results.

A quick word on care

Your shorts are fully machine-washable, but pop them in a laundry bag first to limit the amount of microfibres and microplastics that get into the water system. Best to go for a 30°C cycle with a gentle 400 spin. When it comes to drying, two pegs and a washing line are all you need.

The right pace? Yours

When we set out to design these shorts, our goal was simple: kit out those of you who share a similar attitude to sports as we do. Chasing PBs isn't really our bag — it's that reconnecting feeling that does it for us. The best bit about exercise? Getting a bit of time to yourself, syncing up your mind and body and releasing those weird-but-glorious chemicals that get released when sweat kicks in. And then, maybe, lining up to go again. That's sport for us, and that's exactly what these shorts are designed for.
