The other type of T-shirt

The humble T-shirt has to be the cornerstone of nearly every man’s wardrobe. Remove it from the equation and the whole house of cards collapses. That’s a roundabout way of saying that good T-shirts are important. And let’s not forget that T-shirts come in more than one variety. You’ve got the classic short sleeve version, of course. That’s probably what you’re picturing in your mind’s eye, maybe sported by a young Marlon Brando. But then there’s the lesser-spotted long sleeve tee. Not as popular, perhaps, but no less stylish. And, at your request, that’s exactly what we’ve got for you here.

Don’t let nightmares of the ‘90s put you off.

Down to business!

That’s heavy duty

Right off the bat, let’s talk about flimsy tees. We’ve all had one, and nothing makes you feel self-conscious like a semi-transparent T-shirt. No such issues here. We’ve selected a densely knitted 220g/m2 jersey that’s nice and substantial.

As Mother Nature intended

The cotton itself is grown in Turkey to the most stringent organic standard. This means the whole process is certified organic, cutting out any nasty chemicals and keeping the environmental impact to a minimum.

Clean cut

It goes without saying that fit is crucial, particularly when it comes to a simple bit of clobber like a T-shirt. We’ve opted for a neat, straight cut that’s neither tight and restrictive, nor baggy and shapeless. Spot on.

On the straight and narrow

Description : Let’s twist again, like we did last summer. Actually, let’s not. Some T-shirts have an irritating habit of twisting around your body throughout the day. A lot of you aired this particular grievance, so we’ve employed the latest in anti-twist technology to keep you and your T-shirt on the straight and narrow.

Less pilling, more chilling

It’s not just anti-twist properties that the Long Sleeve T-Shirt is blessed with. We’ve added a generous helping of anti-pilling to the mix, too, so you can be certain your new favourite tee won’t rough up and start looking like an old carpet swatch.

Collar theory

It would be remiss of us to put all this effort into a top-notch T-shirt and forget about the collar. So, we’ve created a vintage style collar where the fabric is sandwiched back on itself. Not only does this add a lot of durability, but it looks rather nice, too.

Our dyeing wish

The Long Sleeve T-Shirts have been dyed by the clever folk over at Egui and Egui in Portugal. They’re experts in their field, and are also OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they wouldn’t even entertain the thought of using harmful substances.

No turning back

Some long sleeve T-shirts have the sporty ribbed cuffs at the ends of the sleeves. While these are perfectly nice, we decided you’d prefer it if we kept things simpler and more streamlined, with a neat turn-back cuff.

Pedigree tee

And if you still have any lingering doubts about the credentials of the new LST (that’s right, we’re not averse to an acronym) then just know that they’re made by the same people who did our stellar short sleeve T-shirt. Now that’s a pedigree.

This basic is anything but basic

The team

Asphalte began life back in 2016, just four people with a bit of experience in fashion and a simple enough aim: making good quality clothes in a low-impact way. Things started off smoothly enough, and we were picking up a bit of momentum, but something was missing. The idea for Asphalte didn’t really come together until we got our pals on the blower and asked them, ‘Hey, what do you want us to make?’ We didn’t realise it at the time, but this was the turning point. If Asphalte were a scientific discovery, this would be called the ‘eureka!’ moment. If it were a comic book, this was the part where we get bitten by a radioactive spider.

It might not seem like a revolutionary idea. That’s because it isn’t, really. But fast forward 5 years and asking our friends what they wanted has turned into sending you lot our biannual questionnaires, and using your feedback to determine what we release. And that’s our secret weapon. It’s how we make what you want for a good price, and keep waste to a minimum.

Today our team is a bit bigger than four people. In fact, there are 64 of us now. We used to be based in Paris, but now we’ve moved out to greener pastures down in Bordeaux. Besides that, we’re still working in much the same way as when we first started, with the same ideas about quality, sustainability and our customers leading the way.
