A look that’s been in since 10BC.

Ok, maybe 10BC’s a bit of a stretch. But the Henley’s steeped in history all the same, the go-to for archers, merry men, rowers and — now — anyone who wants a long-sleeve tee with a bit more about it. With new colours and textures in the mix, this all-rounder’s ready to go with anything you fancy - to a point.

A should-be staple, but some aren’t up to scratch...

1

Looked like pyjamas

2

Lost their shape after two spins in the wash

3

Fabric was too thin

4

Sleeves twisted too easily

An exercise in simplicity and efficiency

Nice and thick

Too flimsy and it twists, too heavy and it makes you sweat. Fabric’s tricky stuff. At 220gr/m2, the cotton we used for this classic has just the right weight to fall nicely, while being sturdy enough to endure years of spin cycles. And it won’t leave you sweating buckets in hot weather. On top of that the certified organic cotton we went for uses 25% less water and is GMO-free. It's better for everyone involved: the workers who grow it, the chaps who wear it, and the planet.

Twists no one's arm

We used the same jersey-knit that goes into our t-shirts here. As you know by now, this fabric simply doesn’t budge, twist or stretch in the wash. Not only that, it actually gets better with age. Knit a thing to fret about.

Not for sleepyheads

Nope, we're all fully awake and caffeinated over here, and we’re not making pyjamas (yet). To prove it we’ve developed a tailored fit that looks damn sharp. The Henley drapes nicely down from your shoulders without being too tight or too loose, but this’ll still be one the comfiest things in your wardrobe.

Buttoned-up. The right way

23 cm of pure attention to detail. Note the three spatially-aware buttons, as well as the button placket in poplin that helps keep the buttons in place and in line. We love a saloon bar as much as the next lot, but we’re not in the Wild West now - there’s no place for wrung-out sweat-stained plackets here, dude.

Colourways for days

You lot gave our last Henley a very ship-shape 8.6/10 but mentioned you’d like a few more options as far as colours go. Well, we live to serve - within reason - so we added a tasty vintage grey marl, a dark green and ink blue options to the mix. The grey marl and the dark green are finished in a honeycomb-like texture, making this version of the Henley even more of a pairing walk in the park.

Straight from the hardware store

We aren’t on about your latest dodgy DIY project, we’re talking about the strong neckline on the Henley. We make it with a triple layer, meaning that we sandwiched a layer of jersey between the ribbing. It's an old-school technique often neglected of late, but it looks great and does exactly what you need. So we’ve brought it back.

Ribbing ftw

The 10cm ribbing on the cuffs’ll keep things orderly. Slip in, slip out. Push them up, pull them back down. You can do what you want with them, but your cuffs will keep bouncing right back to their original shape. This is another tried-and-tested workwear detail too many people pass by.

A touch of history

The Henley’s evolution from hardworking undershirt to easy, everyday garment has made the half-moon stitching on the back of the neck unnecessary: we just don’t sweat enough these days… But it's still a nice authentic detail and the flatlock stitching helps to keep the shoulder seams in place. And if you do find yourself chopping wood, let us know if it helps.

Front row seat

Fair play to the Brits for inventing this one. A key feature in any wardrobe and a genuine alternative to the t-shirt. It looks rubbish with a top hat, but seriously good with jeans, shorts or chinos and is about as easy to throw on in the morning as rolling over and hitting the snooze button. A true all-rounder.
