Well… It took its time, but summer’s definitely gone. The short-lived, cheery anticipation of frosty winter walks and hot toddies has already given way to foreboding after a few drizzly commutes. But don’t get too downhearted, we’ve got something up our sleeves that’ll change your winters for ever: The Heavy Zip Knit. 100% pure virgin wool, tightly knit to a snug fit, with deep hand-warmer pockets and a sturdy 11cm collar that'll put scarves on ice. Pearls of wisdom
Wool’s a familiar concept, what about ‘pearl rib’ though? We thought as much... The pearl rib’s a dense knit created by a double stitch pattern that results in a characterful, distinctive texture. To double a stitch, you have to use twice as much wool. As you might expect, that makes a pearl ribbed jumper heavier, more compact, warmer and less likely to warp or wobble than others. The wool we used here’s got (relatively) long fibres, up to 21.5 microns from the previous version’s already respectable 19. That makes it even more resistant to pilling. Combine all of that with pure wool’s natural antibacterial and crease-resistant qualities you end up with 950 grams of perfected winter jumper.
A knit with a tidy fit
The Heavy Zip Knit’s a great showcase for Asphalte’s trademark, tailored fit. Unlike those sagging zippered jumpers your grandad probably wore in the garden while deadheading god-knows-what, this one’s sharp — with a certain ‘James Bond on a submarine’ flair to it. Naturally, we also kept it comfy, with plenty of give and movability. Enough room for a tee, a shirt, or even a thermal (if things get truly Baltic) but with a tidy shape that’ll keep things the right side of survivalist gone off the rails territory.
No twist tops here
Zip-fronted jumpers can fall prey to the much feared ‘torso-twist’. You know the one, you look over your shoulder, turn back around, and your pullover’s stuck facing the wrong way. But fear not, with this heavyweight we’ve covered all the bases, ensuring it’s twist-resistant, no matter how many times you check your six. That pearl rib’s key here, as it shrinks a whopping 25% less than a traditional 1x1 rib. Add to that the sturdy ribbed waist, pockets and cuffs and you’ll see why you can rest easy.
Stand and deliver
We’re particularly chuffed with how that standing collar turned out. Measuring up to an impressive 11cm, it can be zipped right up to keep those unwelcome winter gusts at bay, but won’t cross into Elizabethan ruff-territory should you choose to let off a little steam. Time to work out how to break the news to your scarves. Go easy.
Zip it up, or down
That chunky front zip comes courtesy of the fine folk at YKK. It’s a serious bit of hardware. As an extra bonus, it zips up as well as down, that’s great news for cape fans and even better news for those who like a bit of comfort when they put their feet up.
From raglan to riches
Unless your name’s Harry Houdini, you probably don’t like to feel too trussed up in your woollens. That’s why we designed the Heavy Zip Knit with raglan sleeves. A classic sportswear-inspired approach, they’re sewn from the collar down, giving your arms plenty of space to move. No excuse not to change that blown lightbulb now...
Hand warmers built-in
No matter what your headmaster used to bang on about, there are times where hands in pockets is the way to go. So we kitted out the Heavy Knit Zip with two spacious, angled hand-warmer pockets that’ll help you keep toasty on chilly days out. And, thanks to that layer of hardy ribbing at the openings, you can use them confidently, knowing they won’t become misshapen shadows of their former selves.

Delivery costs
We deliver worldwide, the cost of which is automatically calculated at checkout. For all deliveries to the UK, European Union countries, Switzerland and Norway we charge a flat fee of 9€. Easy to change sizes
If you get the wrong size, fear not, we accept returns and exchanges. For orders in Europe these are free, and for countries, in the rest of the world we ask you to pay the return and we will take care of the cost of sending out an exchange. Just log into your Asphalte account and we’ll get that sorted.
