Fresh Out the Box

Pants with a pedigree

Why put up with sub-par pants? Here are the things you wanted to see banished from your next pair.

Fall apart before long

Baggy and shapeless

Too long (they’re called boxer shorts after all)

Round one, ding ding!

Are you sitting comfortably?

Life’s difficult enough without adding uncomfortable boxer shorts into the mix. Perhaps more than any region of the body, it deserves comfort. That’s why we’ve prioritised comfort and quality above all else.

Pants fit for a pharaoh

The cotton we’ve selected is a high-quality organic yarn from Egypt, that’s been woven in Italy in a two-ply fashion. What that means is it’s super soft, and super cool.

A fabric so nice it’s a shame no-one will see it

You might find that you’re so impressed with the fabric you want to show it off to people, but please resist the urge to leave the house without your trousers. We’re afraid we can’t be held responsible for any potential court proceedings that may occur as a result.

Cut a long story short

What a lot of you specified is that you didn’t want these boxers to be too long, and who can blame you. It’s not a good look for any man to have the bottoms of his smalls poking out the ends of his short legs. A nice mid-thigh cut it is, then.

What a waist

Turns out, waistbands are a law unto themselves, so if you’re planning on making a spot-on pair of boxers, best bring in the specialists. We enlisted the help of the French waistband artisans over at Berthea, who used their special machines and their second-to-none expertise to craft the waistbands on these babies.

Pushing all the right buttons

It’s like the old saying goes, “If it’s got buttons, it might as well have nice buttons.” Everyone’s dad used to say that, right? Well anyway, our Boxer Shorts have lovely natural mother of pearl buttons on the fly, sourced from Uniesse in Italy.

Take care

If you can’t trust your boxers then who can you trust? It’s important your clothes don’t let you down, and that’s doubly true when it comes to underwear. Ours have a high quality finish that means they aren’t going to fall apart and leave you in a compromising situation.

Premium pants made in Portugal

We trust Portuguese manufacturers with our shirts, jackets, polos, trousers and more, so it’s only right we trust them with making our Boxer Shorts, too. We wouldn’t give the job of making our pants to just anyone, you know. We worked with Luipex who have an excellent pant-making pedigree.

So long as the item is in its original condition, with tags and packaging intact, you can send it back to us for a full refund. No worries.

The Team

Asphalte began life back in 2016, just four people with a bit of experience in fashion and a simple enough aim: making good quality clothes in a low-impact way. Things started off smoothly enough, and we were picking up a bit of momentum, but something was missing. The idea for Asphalte didn’t really come together until we got our pals on the blower and asked them, ‘Hey, what do you want us to make?’ We didn’t realise it at the time, but this was the turning point. If Asphalte were a scientific discovery, this would be called the ‘eureka!’ moment. If it were a comic book, this was the part where we get bitten by a radioactive spider.

It might not seem like a revolutionary idea. That’s because it isn’t, really. But fast forward 5 years and asking our friends what they wanted has turned into sending you lot our biannual questionnaires, and using your feedback to determine what we release. And that’s our secret weapon. It’s how we make what you want for a good price, and keep waste to a minimum.

Today our team is a bit bigger than four people. In fact, there are 64 of us now. We used to be based in Paris, but now we’ve moved out to greener pastures down in Bordeaux. Besides that, we’re still working in much the same way as when we first started, with the same ideas about quality, sustainability and our customers leading the way.
