READY FOR ACTION

TOUGH STUFF

Our Bomber is made from 390g/m2 organic cotton canvas. For those not well versed on fabric weight, that’s nice and substantial, meaning the jacket should put up with a bit of stick—whether you’re parachuting behind enemy lines or just trying to retrieve your daughter’s frisbee from a hedge.

BUILT FOR THE ELEMENTS

Whilst we were keen to retain a lot of the jacket’s original details, one modern feature we did add to the mix was that fluoride-free water-repellent coating so those raindrops just roll right off. If you enjoy walking around in soaking wet, waterlogged jackets, then you might want to look elsewhere.

THE INSIDE TRACK

Inside this fine jacket you’ll find a quilted ripstop liner, padded with recycled polyester. Not only does this up the comfort stakes a few notches, but it also makes things really toasty too.

PROTECT YA NECK

That collar is perhaps the B10’s trademark detail, so we made sure we gave ours the attention it deserved. Constructed from ultra-cosy wool fabric made by the French dream-weavers at Jules Tournier, it’s a true texture sensation that ticks all the right boxes, without straying into ‘Biggles territory’.

HIGHLY FUNCTIONAL

It might feel like Winter never ends, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. With that in mind, both the lining and the collar can be removed when the ice thaws and the sun comes out, making our Bomber a true year-round hit. Think of it as a Volvo 240 with a convertible roof.

OUTSIDE THE BOX

Unless you’re one half of a Max and Paddy tribute act, boxy and bunchy bombers aren’t great. Ours has a modern tailored fit that’s not too short in the body. It’s still most definitely a bomber jacket—but it doesn’t fit like it was made for an eight-year-old.

PLENTY O’ POCKETS

Pockets might just be the most useful invention of the last millennium, so you best believe we used a few here. Those big flap pockets are perfect for resting your hands in, whilst those crafty inside pockets are ideal for precious artefacts. And don’t fret—those press studs on the outside pockets will keep things in place during any complex aerobatics.

DRAUGHT DODGIN’

Anyone who owns heat-sensitive goggles will be aware that a lot of cold air gets in via the cuffs and the hem of a jacket. That’s why we’ve added chunky elasticated ribbing to these key areas. No draughts, and it keeps things firmly in place too. Win-win.

CRAFTED WITH CARE

This almighty slice of aviation-based jacketry was made by Tanex in Romania. They did our Parka too. If you managed to bag one of those, you’ll know that this lot know their onions when it comes to outerwear.

The Team

Asphalte began life back in 2016, just four people with a bit of experience in fashion and a simple enough aim: making good quality clothes in a low-impact way. Things started off smoothly enough, and we were picking up a bit of momentum, but something was missing. The idea for Asphalte didn’t really come together until we got our pals on the blower and asked them, ‘Hey, what do you want us to make?’ We didn’t realise it at the time, but this was the turning point. If Asphalte were a scientific discovery, this would be called the ‘eureka!’ moment. If it were a comic book, this was the part where we get bitten by a radioactive spider.

It might not seem like a revolutionary idea. That’s because it isn’t, really. But fast forward 5 years and asking our friends what they wanted has turned into sending you lot our biannual questionnaires, and using your feedback to determine what we release. And that’s our secret weapon. It’s how we make what you want for a good price, and keep waste to a minimum.

Today our team is a bit bigger than four people. In fact, there are 64 of us now. We used to be based in Paris, but now we’ve moved out to greener pastures down in Bordeaux. Besides that, we’re still working in much the same way as when we first started, with the same ideas about quality, sustainability and our customers leading the way.
