The 48h stat: 2 Jack Bauers’ worth

Highway to the danger zone

For a weekend bag to be game, even for a quick getaway, it needs to have thick skin. Our 48h Bag is made from a super durable double-faced mercerised 100% organic cotton-twill from France. It’s a really thick double canvas that'll protect its content till the very end.

To protect and serve

Before you say anything about rain and cotton hear us out. Yes, normally cotton soaks up rain, but this 48h bag is a whole different ball game. Both canvas and twill have been treated to be water-repellent and anti-marking. So if you feel like singing in the rain, a weekend in Scotland it is.

You can handle this

We don't know about you, but we've rarely met a bag that didn't leave us with claw-hand syndrome. Not to mention straps that break just when you're running for your train. The handles from French maker Satab are comfortable to handle yes and the solid cross-stitching means they can carry the load - including that hoard of ill-advised souvenirs.

Soft strap

The shoulder strap is another heavy-duty piece from the fine folks at Satab. You can easily remove it or adjust it to your liking. It’s sewn on with the sort of thread you could hang a sky lift off. As you requested, we lined the padding so that even if it was a rough trip, you’ll still have a fit shoulder to cry on come Monday morning.

Magic proportions

54 cm long, 26 cm wide, 34 cm high, 43 litres. In short: The ideal size for 48h’s worth of stuff without having to sacrifice that extra shirt or two. You never know when those could come in handy. And it will always, always fit in the carry-on overhead locker. That’s one less reason to lose the plot at check-in.

Closing time

Say 'Pronto' to this zipper from Italian house Lampo, secured with a triple topstitch. So however many sweaters you might stuff inside, if the bag closes it will stay closed. And to get to that sweater more easily we've added two gusseted apertures for easy access. Bravissimo.

Pocket master

It's not great but we know that sometimes you just have to take the laptop. Whatever the reason, we got you covered with an inside pocket to keep your hardware neatly tucked away and safe. But it also works for your books and magazines if you're planning for a slow-life escape.

Heavy metal

A robust fabric is nothing without hardware to match it. The buckles from our French supplier Poursin are made from brass, aka the most solid alloy out there. There's Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and then there's Poursin. Heavy.

May the force be with you

This robust and sturdy Jedi of a bag fights the dark side of weekend trips. Solid fabric, straps, proper hardware and top-notch stitching are a force to be reckoned with in this galaxy and those far far away. Call it a 48 light-years bag when the mission to Mars comes knocking.

The Team

There were four of us when we launched Asphalte in 2016. We had a few years' experience in fashion and we wanted to make clothes, but not just any old clothes. Well-made clothes, designed to last, using amazing materials and made in good conditions.

The guys we had in mind were our mates, who liked clothes but who weren't willing to bankrupt themselves for a pair of jeans. We asked them questions to find out what they expected from a brand. Their answers were so enlightening that we opened the questionnaires up to everyone. Best decision.

Since then, you have been the focus of our thoughts. Asking for your opinion about a product is the starting point for our design process, and that won't change.

We're not here to reinvent the wheel. We're here to make your wardrobe classics but with the best materials and the best manufacturers. Above all, we're here to make things simple, things that you'll still be able to wear in ten years' time.

Over three years, we've gradually put together the dream team to take on the world. Today, there are 40 of us, and our only aim is to make your favourite clothes, in a quality that was once reserved for a handful of men.
