A hard-wearing functional classic, made from organic cotton moleskin
June 10, 2022
If there was such a thing as the ‘Outerwear Hall of Fame’, there’d have to be a full wing dedicated to the M65 Jacket, and we bet it would look great. Military spec khaki carpet, Rambo’s Yamaha in the corner, countless black and white signed photographs of cool Lower East Side cats lining the walls, a few first edition Beat classics in the loo…
Yep, as far as history and heritage are concerned, this utilitarian wonder-jacket is top of the tree. After all, you have to be pretty special to pull off being created by the US Army and being adopted by the countercultural elite. Since 1965 (hence the name) this unfailingly cool combat jacket’s been pretty much what the word ‘classic’ was invented for. We knew ours had to be pretty special.
Tidy cut, serious staying power, and a pocket for each day of the (work) week
- There’s a fine line between top-ranking military-inspired stylings and looking like you cleared out an army surplus closing down sale. Too many combat jackets are shapeless, all pockets and no structure. all pockets and no structure. We made ours a little more fitted than usual around the waist and slightly extended the sleeves, resulting in a tidier, more modern feel.
- Few things are as annoying as military-inspired gear that falls flat in the ruggedness department. With that in mind, we secured the seams on our M65 with double topstitching, using cordonnet thread, which is thicker and more durable than most. And, to be sure it goes the distance we had it made by Pelintex, our official partner in Bulgaria — the same pros that make our Parka. Oh - and it’s 100% organic moleskin too, extra hardy.
- This design classic’s aesthetic is all about the pockets, so we didn’t scrimp on those. In fact, we went to town on them. Four spacious patch pockets with non-flimsy flaps and one extra, low-vis interior pocket. What more could you ask for? Well, we guess you could ask for six pockets, but frankly, we think that’s too many.
- Tidy fit? Check! Seriously durable? Check! Five Pockets? Check! What about those finicky little finishing touches? Don’t you fret. We selected great-looking buttons replacing the velcro closing typically used on M65 cuffs and shoulder straps, opted for press-studs on the placket and pocket flaps, and even fitted some gussets around the shoulders and back for a better drape and added comfort.
As for hardwear, we kept things hardy. We’re talking YKK zips, chunky metal press studs and horn buttons. Remember the scene in First Blood where Rambo spent half an hour painstakingly sewing a new button to his jacket? Us neither. It didn’t happen to him, so it shouldn’t happen to you.
As you know by now, we are serious about fashion heritage, so we kept things in line with the colours on this one. There’s Military Green, obviously. Then we opted for Camel, for those who wanted something a little less typical, and also for Navy - because we know you all love it (thanks again for doing those surveys!).
And you can get yours from next Tuesday 14th of June, from 10 am sharp for 229€.
