This coat may be the most technologically advanced outerwear piece we’ve ever made, but that doesn’t mean it can’t do with a bit of analogue TLC every now and then. So here are a few pointers to keep it braving the elements for years to come.
Lesson 1: Washing
Depending on how frequently (and heavily) you use your coat, it may need a good wash from time to time to remove any dirt.
While it’ll be happy enough in the washing machine, it’s worth remembering that recycled polyester is still polyester, which means that it releases tiny fragments of plastic when it's washed. That isn't great news for the environment.
To limit the impact you can invest in a Guppyfriend laundry bag, or similar, which you can use when washing all your synthetic fibres. Alternatively, you can install a microplastic filter on your washing machine, but that's a whole other ball game (and budget).
It's best to wash your Raincoat inside out, with all the zips closed, and with similar colours. We recommend a delicate setting, at 30-40°C, with a moderate spin (600 to 800 rpm).
Of course, you can also wash it by hand - that works just as well!
Lesson 2: Drying
Once clean, leave your Raincoat to dry on a hanger, preferably out of direct sunlight (to avoid the colours fading over time). Of course, tumble dryers are a no-go.
Lesson 3: Re-waterproofing
Yes, it’s a thing.
Successive washes may end up weakening the water resistance of your Technical Raincoat. Nothing too major, but it may make your coat less water-tight over time.
If you notice that happening, then you know it’s time to apply a waterproofing treatment to restore all its faculties. There are tons and tons of them out there.
Enjoy the dry spell!
That’s as far as pampering this water-phobic hi-tech garment goes. And if you have any feedback, positive or negative, don't hesitate to get in touch with our team at support@asphalte.com
